Daily Thoughts

Recap of what’s going on in my life each day.

Quick For Now…Best Birthday Ever!

So, before I hit the sack. I just have to thank the most amazing women in the world [Vanessa ;-) ] for the most amazing birthday ever. OK, so some of you are thinking “it’s not your birthday yet” well, we celebrated early because we’ve got our dance class on Tuesday. Today was an awesome day! Vanessa gave me a season of Seinfeld on DVD and a disc golf bag. She took me out for dinner at a great place called Rose’s on Reeds Lake, and we had some wood-fired pizza, it was excellent. After dinner we headed over to a theatre to see an improv group (River City Improv). We had a load of laughs. Well, I’ll have to get into more later. I don’t think I can thank Vanessa enough for the day.

Give Me a Boost

Well, I know it’s been awhile since my last little updated, but that’s the way it goes sometimes. Vanessa & I have been having a great time with our dance class. It’s so great to have someone to dance with, as I’ve wanted to get into dance for a long time. We haven’t been up to a whole lot over the past couple of weeks because Vanessa got sick and then had some back problems. I feel so bad for her, I wish that I could make her all better but only time and rest help to overcome those things. I’ve tried to help her out as much as I can. I guess there is a part of me that just wants to take care of her and make everything all right. Maybe that’s just cheesy thinking. I know that I struggle with putting a lot on myself, wanting to making her happy. I know that I’m not perfect, but having a perfectionist personality doesn’t help the situation. It makes it very easy to worry about doing something wrong in our relationship. I do have to say that we made it through getting lost, on a short trip, without get into any fight. [ ;-) ]

So what was this little trip? Well, that’s where the title comes in. We headed out to Spring Hill Camp for a retreat with the Family Life staff and volunteers at church, called Boost. Well, we got some bad directions, thanks to Google Maps unfortunately, and in the process ended up being a couple hours late. I know Vanessa was frustrated and upset, as she had responsibilities for the event. It didn’t help that neither of us really knew the area and we didn’t have a full map. I think for any future travel I’ll make sure to have a map along. I felt really bad for her, and wished I could have done something more to fix the situation. We finally did get there, after getting some directions from someone that was already there, and had gotten lost with the same directions. We caught the end of the evening session and then headed off with the group for some bowling. Vanessa was still getting over her back pains so she just hung out. I played probably one of the best games I’ve ever had. My second game I came out with like a 158. I happen to get 3 strikes in a row. It’s actually quite amazing I was still functional at that point. I’d been running on like 3 hours of sleep. I had a big project at work that I was working on the night before and basically run the whole night and through part of the next day. Ok, back from the segue. After the bowling I pretty much crashed for the night.

Warning: Google Video Not Safe

So, I just wanted to post this out there to warn anyone that I know. I decided to check out what was new with Google Video and took a look by the Top 100 list. To my horror I found that, at least by the description, that Google Video is not safe from a content perspective. The top videos had some sort of sexual or perhaps even pornographic description. One nice thing is that Google does provide a way to report a movie because of this type of issue, however there still isn’t any safe way to browse Google Video. They even list in their FAQ that they dont’ have SafeSearch working yet for Google Video. This is a huge mistake on their part I would have to say. I was a little disappointed in my own filtering software for not doing a better job of filtering out even the listing of those bad movies. One other good things though is that I have Flashblock installed in Firefox and Google Video uses flash for it’s movies. This allowed me to select the video link, without actually loading up the movie, and report it as being in violation of the content policy that Google has set. The problem even here though is that they should provide a way to flag a movie from the listing screen and also if I’m logged into my Google Account have those movies I’ve flagged automatically be removed from the listings I see.

It really stinks that the internet has to be so polluted. I know that I will have a hard time ever allowing my children to use the internet unsupervised. Well, I hope this warning does some good. Normally I’m a huge supporter of Google and all it’s projects, but this is one project that I have to be against for the time being.

Dance, Dance, Dance…

I know that I haven’t posted in awhile. And I know that my last post, that some may have seen, was a not ans exciting life update post. I haven’t forgotten about the blog world, life just sometimes gets away from you. My podcasting days come back to mind every now and then too. I really think that if I’m going to get back into the podcasting I need to come up with a solid plan for organizing each show.

Vanessa and I have just completed the 4th week of our dance class. We’ve learned both the waltz and the foxtrot so far. We had so much fun tonight, especially whiel practicing before class at my house. I love all the laughter we share. We’re not doing too bad, the key of it all is practice. I think we may need be sure to consider keeping up on practicing even after the class is done. I’ve bought some waltz, foxtrot, and swing music that we can dance too so we have what we need to practice. The only thing that we run into, quite literally actually, is not having enough room. Actually, as I just thought about it, we should really use Vanessa’s basement to practice.
