Why Do I Run? No, Really, Why Do I Run?

For some time now I’ve struggled with continuing to post my runs. I used to tell myself that I was trying to bring awareness to the need for clean water in the world, especially to our brothers and sisters in Sierra Leone, Africa. I feel like in the last few months I’ve lost sight of that, or if I’m really honest, it’s because I don’t think anyone else cares about that anymore.

everything that has been going on with the pandemic, and now with the needed focus on racial injustice, I feel like people have forgotten about all the needs that existed before. The needs in our world are so many and we can’t all focus on all of them but we need some of each of us to focus on some of them.

Even now as I finish up this post it’s ended up being over 24 hours since I actually completed my run. I don’t want to give up. I’m going to continue to push through this difficult time and do my part to help make this short time we all have on Earth a little bit better.

    Preflight Long Run

Since our family was flying to Minnesota very early the next morning I decided to get my long run in the night before. It started out very strange because as I ran I felt like I was slowly trudging along but when my audio coach gave me updates it was saying I was doing a pace under 9 min/mi which just didn’t seem possible. Then for the first half of the run I was just cruising. The second half of the run was a very different story. I’m not sure why I just hit the wall but it happened. I eventually decided to cut the run short at a half marathon distance. Giving how slow my pace was the last few miles I expected a…

Tackling The Wind And The Rain

This morning was a cold, wet, and windy run to meet up with the Hope Water team. I did enjoy running with some of the team for about a mile-and-a-half before parting and finishing out my last 6.5 miles. #HWI #Run4Water #WhyIRun #GRGus The trek back home was quite a bit harder given that I was running into the wind instead of with the wind. It also didn’t help that I really had to kick things into higher gear to start to arrive by 8am to run with the team. I probably should have gotten up a little bit earlier to give myself an extra 15 minutes or so of running time. The important thing is that I made it there and finished the run….

Reflecting On How Far I’ve Come

When I look back to 2016 at this time I’m pretty amazed at how far I’ve come. At that time I was lucky to probably have gone 1 mile in around 30 minutes, and that was probably mostly walking. Comparing that to my run today I can honestly say that God used running to make a huge change in my life as well as the people of Sierra Leone, Africa. God has blessed me in my running. #HWI #Run4Water #WhyIRun #RiverBankRun

    5K+ Christmas Morning Training Run

After opening presents with the kids, and helping them get their gifts ready to play with, I headed out for a short Christmas run. I pushed it a bit as I wanted to make sure I wasn’t gone from the family too long. The kids were up before 5am this morning so it was good that I didn’t chance it and try to hey my run in before they woke up. I’m thankful for how God has blessed our family. I’m looking forward to more of a joy filled day. I pray that no matter what the situation any of us are facing this Christmas that we can all still have joy and thankfulness for the greatest gift we have received in Jesus Christ. #HWI…
