Knocking Out Another 14 Miles With The Hope Water Team

Only $355 more to go before October 20th, #GRMarathon day. That’s another 53 people that will get clean water in Africa. Just another $12.25 a day from partners to hit the goal. Who’s with me? https://timn.me/2Kx7NEr #HWI #Run4Water #WhyIRun It was great to be able to join the Hope Water team again this morning and run with the group. I enjoyed some great conversation with Justin Dykstra. I could sure tell the difference between having someone to run with versus not when I finished the last 4 miles on my own. If you struggle to get out and run I strongly urge you to find a group to run with. The miles melt away when you get into conversation. And you are building real connections…

Moving On From A Marathon…It’s Really Not About Me

So today is the 2nd day since completing the marathon, and unfortunately I find myself in more of a discouraged state than in celebration of my accomplishment. There are many things going through my head, many thoughts that cause me to be more disappointed with marathon Sunday. Nothing played out like I had hoped. I ended up coming in behind most of all the other marathon runners from our group despite leading the pack throughout training. I didn’t get to cross the finish line with my running partner, or my kids. I ended up walking most of the last 4.5 miles. I ended up going to the medical aid tent after crossing the finish line. I have no photo of me crossing the finish line….

Running Is My One On One Time

It’s still a little bit to get used to doing these longer “midweek” runs on a Monday instead of a Tuesday, but I think I’m getting into a groove with it. It’s nice to have a long “easy” run on a Monday where is can spend a lot of time listening to worship music, listening for God’s direction, and presenting the needs of friends and family to Him. I can honestly say that getting our for a morning run has not only been good for my physical health but it’s had a huge impact on my spiritual health as well. I do enjoy group runs but there is something to be said for having time where it’s just you, the pavement, and God. I spent…

An “Easy” 5 Mile Recovery Training Run

Decided to hit some of what used to be a pretty regular route for me. I still tweaked it a bit though. Today was supposed to be an “easy” run but it was more of a “comfortable” run for me, basically if I was comfortable running a sub-8 minutes per mile then that is what I ran. Perhaps it could be considered a fartlek run I guess. However, with my typically inconsistent running pace ever run I do could be considered a fartlek run. Ha. I did also enjoy a shorter run listening to a worship music running set. I wish there were more of those with some more recent music. I spent some time thinking about my former ministry cohort John Martinson and his…

Having Your Bowels Cut Your Run Short

Yeah, it’s not pleasant to talk about, but as a runner you generally are aware of the things that can happen while on a long run. And when you aren’t someplace where you can find a well placed #JohnnyBlue things get interesting real quick. I had to cut a couple of miles off my long run this morning in order to literally make a run for the restroom. It didn’t kill my pace, I suppose it maybe helped to some degree. It doesn’t happen very often to me but I’ll have to be a little more cautious in the future.
