Extended Family Holiday Weekend
Had a great extended weekend with the family. Loved having the extra day and enjoyed many fun activities. It started Friday night with my wife and I renting and watching The Shack. Saturday was a busy day starting off with the HWI group run followed by getting supplies and materials to build a deck out back. On Sunday we enjoyed a great Sunday message as a campfire with the family, mother in-law, and father in-law. Monday we had a great morning at the Jenison Memorial Day Parade with the kids. Had a great weekend camping not far from home at Woodchip Campground in Byron Center. Weekend was filled with a bunch of fun activities with the kids including time in the pool and time with some of Vanessa’s family. Resisting the urge to work nights or weekends has been a challenge since starting my new job with Sprint back in September. Having a big high visibility project, that is all new, hasn’t helped matters. This article from DZone says a lot to why I need to put my boundaries back in place. I know things aren’t at a good place when my wife says “you’ve been working a lot lately, when will things get back to normal”. Major red flag indeed. So looking forward to the next few months as we’ll be moving into a new house, and my wife plans a trip to Africa, I’ll need to think long and hard before I pickup the work computer during my nights and weekends.How Do My Kids See Me Living?
Your sons learn more from you by observation than by lecture. I’m constantly challenged by how I’m training and teaching my kids. It’s not a easy task and we hope that we do a good job more that we screw up. Thank goodness that our kids have a loving God that has the power to undo our mess ups. One of the challenges I have is not getting upset with my kids. In turn that means not making my kids upset with the way I handle my frustrations with their behavior. I need to remember this verse every time I’m faced with training and disciplining my kids. Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger by the way you treat them.
