Time To Get Serious: The God Who Is Spirit

How fitting that today’s topic is worship, with having the first youth praise team practice yesterday. The scripture passage for this study is John 4:19-26, Jesus’ meeting with the Samaritan woman. They have a conversation of where the Jews & the Samaritans disagree on where to worship God. Jesus made it very clear that after His coming He was going to clarify this. Worshiping God is not about the place, it is about us meeting with God individually and worshiping Him “in spirit and in truth”. When we come to Him in time of worship it is about an internal connect between God and us, where all worldly and material things are put aside. I understand that during Sunday morning gatherings that the leaders goal, at the inception, is to lead people to that place where they are meeting God one-to-one. However our times of worship don’t stop there. This can happen when God meets us during any time spent with Him. It is our hearts through Christ that worship God.

    Hardships…Who’s to Blame?

(Exodus 5:1-23) Initially it would seem that Moses and Aaron weren’t helping matters each time they talked to Pharaoh. The Isrealites even blamed them for making things harder for them. How did Moses and Aaron take that? Well we know that at least Moses in turn decided to blame God for what was happening to the Isrealites. It might seem that both the Isrealites and/or Moses were correct in placing blame, however they were wrong as God had a plan for it all. I think about when things, even small things, don’t go our way we so easily look to place blame. I think it can be so easy for us to lose sight of the possibility that God is working. We can never fully…

    My Long Weekend…

So it’s been a few days since my last post. When things get busy I find it hard to get them in. Things have been kind of crazy. I just noticed too that my last real blog post was Tuesday. Wednesdays always get busy and late, actually I ended up going over to John & Caristy’s after youth group again. It’s good for me to be apart of some social things, especially with people my own age. So let’s recap a little. Wednesday youth group was good. Joel & Liz Christensen gave a talk about their work in China. It was a little different than what they talked about on Sunday wo that was good. With the craziness of the week I didn’t do music,…

What It Means To Be A Good Father

One of the challenges I have is not getting upset with my kids. In turn that means not making my kids upset with the way I handle my frustrations with their behavior. I need to remember this verse every time I’m faced with training and disciplining my kids. Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger by the way you treat them. Rather, bring them up with the discipline and instruction that comes from the Lord. Ephesians 6:4 NLT http://bible.com/116/eph.6.4.NLT

    Full Days…

So I didn’t really get off to a good start this morning. Basically my whole sleeping schedule has been thrown off. Tomorrow I will be forcing myself to get up when the alarm goes off. The day turned out pretty excellent however. The Bible study I had with a couple of youth guys really revealed a wrong attitude I had about the weekend coming up. I find it can be frustrating to see people treat others with such disrespect, especially when we are talking about Christians. I guess it is easy to hold Christians up to a higher standard. This is right and wrong. While we should expect Christian to be doing what’s right in the eyes of the Lord, we also need to show…

Hoping to Get Back in The Groove…

Something that came up at our Life Shapes meeting this morning, was the subject of mission. This is something that I’ve been sort of struggling with, in that I’m trying to determine what my mission should be. I think this brings me back to the Purpose Driven Life. I have felt, for a long time, that my heart is for youth. This has been what has drawn me to my years working at Inspiration Point, and my current involvement with the Bethel youth. I’m not sure how the Missional Community of Faith and my heart for youth might be tied together. This is something that I’ll be looking for God’s direction in, as is life in general. Well, this is just s short post. Let’s…

  1. I like the morning devotion topic, but have a question & need your view. Someone I know made the comment “you don’t have to go to church to believe in God… and where in the Bible does it say that”. “the people at church talk behind your back..that’s why I won’t go…”
I replied that no church is perfect…
I will be searching the Bible for “fellowship” which I have come to realize is important including worship.

  2. Here are two good passages that speak about the need to gather together. Hebrews 10:24-25, Acts 2:42-47. Here’s another thing to keep in mind, Deuteronomy 5:12, this is one fo the ten commandments. Now this obviously doesn’t say that by keeping the Sabath holy means going to church, I believe that this is part of it. Obviously there can also be a dangerous thought, that some people belive by simply going to church that makes you a Christian. No where does the scripture say this. God’s design for church is a place of Christian fellowship and support in our Christian walk. How can we spure one another on if we don’t gather. While I don’t believe that church on a Sunday morning is the only place to get that kind of fellowship & support that God’s desires us to have, there has to be some gathering that fosters this on a regular basis.
