Warning: Google Video Not Safe

So, I just wanted to post this out there to warn anyone that I know. I decided to check out what was new with Google Video and took a look by the Top 100 list. To my horror I found that, at least by the description, that Google Video is not safe from a content perspective. The top videos had some sort of sexual or perhaps even pornographic description. One nice thing is that Google does provide a way to report a movie because of this type of issue, however there still isn’t any safe way to browse Google Video. They even list in their FAQ that they dont’ have SafeSearch working yet for Google Video. This is a huge mistake on their part I would have to say. I was a little disappointed in my own filtering software for not doing a better job of filtering out even the listing of those bad movies. One other good things though is that I have Flashblock installed in Firefox and Google Video uses flash for it’s movies. This allowed me to select the video link, without actually loading up the movie, and report it as being in violation of the content policy that Google has set. The problem even here though is that they should provide a way to flag a movie from the listing screen and also if I’m logged into my Google Account have those movies I’ve flagged automatically be removed from the listings I see.

It really stinks that the internet has to be so polluted. I know that I will have a hard time ever allowing my children to use the internet unsupervised. Well, I hope this warning does some good. Normally I’m a huge supporter of Google and all it’s projects, but this is one project that I have to be against for the time being.

    Busy Night…Small World

Well, today (er, I guess looking at the time I have to say tomorrow), it was a pretty slow day at work. Had a fun time talking about bread with a co-worker, she has like 3 bread machines, seems like her family would have bread coming our of their ears. From the conversations in the break room today you could definitely tell it was a Friday. After work I stopped at the seminary to meet with Phil to talk about a projector installation project. This will probably be a side job, which means some extra cash. It shouldn’t take too much to get a list of the equipment needed and do the install. I decided I wanted to get over to the play at “A…

    Camping Trip…Sa-weat!

What a weekend! I have to say that this weekend was the most fun and restful trip I’ve had in a long time. From the car-ride on Friday, to the trip back, the weekend was filled with amazing fellowship and much needed rest. On Friday Laura got to my house after work and we headed to the campground, St Croix State Park, to meet up with Chad. Chad had a conference in the area, so he was able to get to the campsite and setup camp before we got there. I had a great opportunity to talk with Laura and get to know her better during the car-ride. We arrived at about almost 9pm. Chad had everything up and going, including a campfire. We sat…
  • Moved In And Lovin’ It

Well folks (readers/freinds) I’m am now know as a Michigander (as Vanessa would call it). I haven’t gotten a new drivers license or license plates on the car but I really do feel at home at the moment. I still need to get myself familiar with the area but I’ve got a map (thx Nessa!) and I’m pretty confident I’ll figure it out in no time. The move went pretty well, all except the long drive, and little sleep, between Thursday & Friday. Thanks to those of you that helped with all the packing and loading. Actually on Friday, on the way through Wisconsin, we got stuck for an hour on the Interstate, as a trucking hauling scrap metal dumped it’s load all over the…
  • Another Quick Note…Podcasting Has Begun…

Well, the first official Faith Shaping podcast has been created and published. I’ve still got some work to do with submitting the feed to all the podcast directories. The podcast actually ended up being a 20 minute episode. After listening to it I have some things to improve on but it seems to have gone pretty well. Check it out and give me your feedback. https://www.faithshaping.org/

    What Has Today Brought?

I’d haveto say that all-in-all it was a decent day. I would have preferred to get a bit farther along in my data-entry, I spent a good portion of the day generating mailing lists. I would have to say that about the best parts of today were getting up early and having some good devotion time and breakfast before I headed off to work. I think both of those things have proven to make my mornings more productive. This evening wasn’t too bad. I didn’t get quite as much accomplished tonight as I had hoped but I did manage to have a rather tasty steak and potato supper, I also began creating an actual budget I hope to be sticking by. This was a huge…

Expectations, Communication…When Life Gets Too Busy

Well I got a rather unfortunate email today. I’ve basically been let go for the website project I was working on. The truth of the matter is there were things that myself and the company that hired me didn’t do very well. I kind of feel a little frustrated as I thought I made myself very clear how busy my schedule was before they agreed to hire me. Apparently I didn’t do a good enough job. It would also seem as though they really didn’t read the contract before they agreed to it. It clearly states what I was expecting. I guess I’m fine with not having to worry about it any more however, I just feel as though they could have done a better…

  1. actually, google video usually has people or something who screen for content. while the video title may be questionable, no video of actual…censorable material would be able to make it to the top 100 without google’s intervention
