My First Big Race, Fifth Third Riverbank Run

Today wasn’t my 1st race but it was the first big race with a lot of excitement and energy. I had the pleasure of running with a HWI Team Daybreak member, Scott Woody. We finished in excellent time given it was a first 10k race for both of us. I know that today was nothing compared to the experience of the Grand Rapids marathon with the full Daybreak crew. I had such an awesome time, and the feeling of accomplishment and energy as we came into the finish was unlike anything I’ve experienced before.

Many are encouraging me to run the full marathon in the fall, including my wife. I have my reservations simply because I don’t want to over do it. As crazy as it may sound, I’m really enjoying running. I don’t want to injure myself, but maybe I’m being too cautious. One thing I know without a doubt is that there is an amazing community of support no matter what I choose to do. Maybe since 2 of my recent running partners are planning to run the full marathon I should be joining them. ?

    Another 5K For Clean Water

Pushed this morning’s training run to a 5K distance, and bumped up the intensity a bit. Just like training for a marathon is not easy or simple, so it is with putting in a well. When I had a chance to learn about the process of putting in a well I was amazed at the amount of work that is done before even putting a drill in the ground. And that actually does start with raising the money to fund the time and materials required to put in a well. There are villages filled with children all over Africa that need our support in bring them hope for the future through a life sustaining well. Will you be a part of the solution to a…

Slowing Down To Speed Up, Monday Run On The Dreadmill

In 5 weeks I’ll be running my 5th marathon and representing #HWI and spreading the message for the need of clean water in Africa. #Run4Water #WhyIRun #GRGus With such a short time for training making sure I’m following the plan is really going to be key to finishing well. In that light I took advantage of the treadmill today and set the speed to the slow pace today called for. Deciding to run on the dreadmill(treadmill) didn’t come easy but with the weather being rain & wind with a potential for snow, I decided it was best. Support Clean Water: https://timn.me/2Kx7NEr

Not Getting Caught Up With PRs And Race Pace

A little wet this morning but still nothing like last year’s #GRMarathon with the cold downpouring rain. Today being a longer race pace training run it was hard for me to not just focus on the run. With this type of training run you start thinking about what your race pace should be. It’s so easy to begin the comparison game and feel like you should be able to do better. What I’ve come to appreciate is that there are enough people in the running world that don’t let themselves get caught up in all the PRs, the studies on how to get better and so on. There are those that have found the place where running is about getting outside, staying active for their…
