Another Running Milestone…20 Miles

Hope Water International – Team Daybreak

I had the pleasure of running my peak 20 miles training run with this amazing community. The amount of support and encouragement that I’ve received is a huge contributor to bringing me to the 20 miles milestone today. I would have never thought a little more than a year ago I’d be training to run a marathon. Even up until the 53rd Riverbank Run 10K this past Spring I was only considering doing the half marathon. With the encouragement, and a little positive peer pressure ?, I decided to go for the full marathon.

20 Mile Training Run With John VanLaan

It’s been a long journey to get to today, and I’ve built some amazing friendships along the way. I don’t think I could have made it this far without my running partner John VanLaan. I’ve been blessed to get to know John over these past many weeks of training and look forward to more running together in the future.

I’m pretty sure I’m going to be doing the 53rd Riverbank Run 25K this next Spring, but beyond that I don’t know what’s in store. Running has really become apart of who I am. It isn’t about the races it’s about staying active and building relationships. Those are the things that really matter. Most recreational runners, the ones that aren’t looking to “place” in the races understand what I’m talking about.

I’m looking ahead to the 26.2 miles ahead of me and I know that no matter what there is a community behind me that will be supporting me across that finish line.

I’m still quite a ways from my $1000 goal to bring wells to Africa. I hope that my journey is an encouragement and that those I know would feel compelled to celebrate with me today by helping bring water to those that are in desperate need of water.

Saturday Morning Groundhog Day Marathon Course Training Run

Knocked out 18 miles this morning with my running partner. We decided to take on the Groundhog Day Marathon course near Millennium Park, 4 laps of the course. It was a good practice run. I’m glad we still have another month n of training to go as I could definitely feel the last couple of miles of just the 18. I thought the weather was pretty good for an early morning run. #HWI #Run4Water #WhyIRun #GRGus Donate to Wells in Africa – https://timn.me/2t9D4ne

    It’s The Abominable Snowman!

Let’s just say it was a little cold outside. I still don’t understand why people, and businesses, and churches couldn’t have their sidewalks clear by now. For those that got them cleared you are a blessing to us runners. I made the mistake of using my CamelBak again. The line froze again at about mile 3-4. I need to figure out something better, maybe the best I can do is water bottles when it’s this cold and just conserve. I can say that until now it’s been pretty great weather for runners in the winter. I take days like this as just another way to prepare for anything come the Groundhog Day Marathon. #HWI #Run4Water #WhyIRun #GRGus

Kicking Off A New Training Plan

After still not quite getting much in for running the last two weeks I decided to just start a new training plan. For me, I need the motivation of a plan. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not a matter of if I don’t have a plan I won’t run, it does make it harder, but it really comes down to just not wanting to have to figure what I’m going to run every morning. With a training plan there is no question of what am I going to run, I don’t have to think about it, I just get out there and do what the plan says. Besides starting a new training plan, something that was said to me the night before, in regards to…

    Nailing The Saturday Long Run

This morning I really just ran to the worship music and went at the pace that felt comfortable. I’m pretty blown away to see how much I improved my pace in just a couple of weeks, where I finished with a 9:50 min/mi pace. I think the most enjoyable part of my run this morning was just being pleasantly surprised by the next worship song. When the next song came on I just got into a zone of focusing on the music and running in time with it. I loved it. When I run in the morning it has 2 main purposes for me, the first is to have a conversation starter to make people aware of the huge need for wells in Africa, and…
