Another Running Milestone…20 Miles

Hope Water International – Team Daybreak

I had the pleasure of running my peak 20 miles training run with this amazing community. The amount of support and encouragement that I’ve received is a huge contributor to bringing me to the 20 miles milestone today. I would have never thought a little more than a year ago I’d be training to run a marathon. Even up until the 53rd Riverbank Run 10K this past Spring I was only considering doing the half marathon. With the encouragement, and a little positive peer pressure ?, I decided to go for the full marathon.

20 Mile Training Run With John VanLaan

It’s been a long journey to get to today, and I’ve built some amazing friendships along the way. I don’t think I could have made it this far without my running partner John VanLaan. I’ve been blessed to get to know John over these past many weeks of training and look forward to more running together in the future.

I’m pretty sure I’m going to be doing the 53rd Riverbank Run 25K this next Spring, but beyond that I don’t know what’s in store. Running has really become apart of who I am. It isn’t about the races it’s about staying active and building relationships. Those are the things that really matter. Most recreational runners, the ones that aren’t looking to “place” in the races understand what I’m talking about.

I’m looking ahead to the 26.2 miles ahead of me and I know that no matter what there is a community behind me that will be supporting me across that finish line.

I’m still quite a ways from my $1000 goal to bring wells to Africa. I hope that my journey is an encouragement and that those I know would feel compelled to celebrate with me today by helping bring water to those that are in desperate need of water.

Great Training Run With Friends This Morning

Loved being able to do a training run with other guys. 3 things happen, first you’re building relationships and community. Second you’re keeping your heart rate and pace in check as you carry on a conversation, or try to. ? And last the time and miles seem to fly by since you’re focusing less on them. So many benefits, it’s too bad life didn’t allow for all training runs to be with a running partner. [endomondowp type=’workout’ workout_id=’933214802′] Michigan, United States of America

    Race Pace Training Run

#HWI #HessLakeRun #GRMarathon #Run4Water Only a little wet this morning but it actually felt good by keeping things cooler. Tried to keep at a race pace but as usual my pace was a bit of a roller coaster. Even with music I can’t keep it very consistent from one minute to the next. I need to work on that, but perhaps my consistent race pace is slower than I’d like it to be and that’s why I have such a hard time. I know that I was pushing the limits given how high my heart rate would get. I think maybe it’s time to put aside the training plan that is trying to get me faster and just get out and enjoy the run. Planning With Purpose For Clean Water And Training For A Race

Putting in a well in Africa takes planning, which is not unlike using a training plan for running with a race as the goal. In order for a well to be successfully drilled there is a lot of planning and preparing that needs to be done. Just like in order to have a chance at hitting a race goal you have to commit to a plan. #HWI #Run4Water #WhyIRun #GRGus Be the start of the plan for a new well: https://timn.me/2Kx7NEr

A Run Focusing On The Physical Needs Of Others

Had a sluggish start this morning, but I pushed myself and got things improved my the end of my run. I did miss most of the rain, just got caught in some sprinkles during the last quarter mile. Most of my focus though was on those I know that have physical needs, including our Enable The Children sponsored child. It seems that the physical needs in our world almost match that of the spiritual need. And yet we see time and again that God uses those physical needs to bring people into relationship with Him. Most of need a jolt every now and then to help us remember what’s most important in this life here. #HWI #ETC #EnableTheChildren #GRMarathon #Run4Water #WhyIRun

    5K Number 5… Feeling Great!

I was pretty frustrated with my pace after yesterday’s run. I had a ton of support and encouragement from the HWP Team and I was super excited to see my results today. I paid close attention to what I was doing today, as compared to the previous day, and made adjustments and I saw the difference. Now I need to just stay the course with my consistency and see where it leads me. 🙂 [endomondowp type=’workout’ workout_id=’859898904′ ] Pro Gym, Jenison, Michigan

5K Training Run – Need to Slow it Down

I haven’t been posting my runs in awhile, just for the pure fact of the extra time it requires to post it to my blog. It’s just faster using Endomondo’s share feature to post to social media rather than turning off the social media sharing of my blog posts. Today’s training run, day 2/week 3, was a slow pace day. Was very hard to stick to the show pace, as evidenced by my time. It was supposed to be a 11:42 min/mi rune but it was more like 10:00 min/mi. ? [endomondowp type=’workout’ workout_id=’872608651′]
