Remembering The Daily Struggle In Sierra Leone

As I wrapped up another 5 miles this morning my thoughts turned to the daily struggle to survive for so many in Sierra Leone. The hardship of trying to gather water, and not even clean water for many, is real. Adding the begin of the spread of in he country and I am deeply concerned about all of those I was blessed with meeting when I visited almost 2 years ago. They don’t have anywhere near the facilities and access to services that we have in the U.S. and they are in desperate need our investment in their future.

    A Brutal Winter Run

Wow, that is all I can say about the weather this morning on my run. Between the freezing rain pelting me, the massive wind gusts, and the snow-covered sidewalks that reduced my traction to almost zero, let’s just say I felt like I ran 12 miles not just shy of 6. I laugh because today was supposed to be an easy run day, and with that pace you might think I took it slow but that wasn’t really what went down. Mornings like this make it hard to focus on much else than the will power to keep going and get it done. #HWI #Run4Water #WhyIRun #RiverBankRun

My problem is that I can’t sustain my faster pace for an entire full marathon, and I question even a half marathon right now. When I start too fast I use up so much energy that I hit a big wall too early on. Part of the reason for slower long runs is to build up endurance. Just pounding out the miles as fast as you can all the…

Last Full Training Week Before The Big Day

Pretty much unheard of for me today ended up being an evening training run, and an #Endomondo one at that. I started off way better than the start of a typical morning run, but given I’ve had a whole day to get my body moving that sort of makes sense. It was still pretty warm and humid, though I really appreciated the occasional breeze. I can’t wait until the temps cool down more. It did get me thinking about what those in Africa have to deal with, just walking, to go for miles just to get a container of water. #HWI #Run4Water #WhyIRun Donate to Water – https://timn.me/2t9D4ne I did spend a lot of time thinking about my former camp co-worker Jon and his family….
