First Work Morning, in the New Place…

So really yesterday was my first morning waking up in my new home, however this is the first morning that my work morning routine begins to take shape (at least until we return from our honeymoon). I’m going to have to keep this short for now.

These past couple of weeks, and now this week, have been amazing for my morning devotions. I struggled at the beginning of the year to want to go through one of the devotionals I had because I had already been through it a couple years ago. The amazing thing is over the course of the last couple of weeks, and now this one, the devotional readings have all been about marriage. This week talks about life after the honeymoon, which I know hasn’t happened yet, but it’s good to keep that in mind even before the wedding and honeymoon. The words to ponder this morning were “You’ll both get a lot farther and be a lot happier if you concentrate on fulfilling each other instead of perfecting each other”. As I thought about this, and what God commands of us, marriage is not at all about receiving it’s about giving. I’ve approached my relationship with Vanessa this way all along. I don’t understand why people insist on ignoring this part of marriage. God has called me to love Vanessa no matter what, that is exactly the kind of love that He shows me, how can I show any less to Vanessa (soon to be my wife). One of my desires is that God can use the marriage that Vanessa and I have in some way, that it always be pleasing in His sight. All I want is to do anything I can to help our marriage to be the kind of marriage God intended.

    John Confirms Jesus

    (John 1:29-34) So, John didn’t know Jesus really, other than what God had revealed to him. However, the key things that God revealed to him was how he would recognize who Jesus was. We see here that Jesus came to John to be baptized. Even though, as far as John was concerned, he wasn’t worthy to baptize Jesus that is what Jesus required of him. He did this and then John saw first hand the Holy Spirit come down onto Jesus, and this was exactly what God had told John would happen. At that point John had no doubt at all that this was Jesus.     Where’s The Line…Freedom in Christ or Good Witness

    (1 Corinthians 14:13-25) In my devotion time today, Paul was again talking to the church in Corinth about matters of witness to unbelievers and escentially the freedom found in Christ. The problem for the early church, and I would say that this problem has not gone away, was that for the unbelievers (or even weak or new in faith) there were things that they didn’t understand which easily turned them off to Christianity. The hard part comes in that God has called us, as Christians, to be different than this world.     The Christian Responsibility to the Oppressed

    – These days there is a lot of talk about the less fortunate and especially the oppressed. It’s very clear from Scripture that as Christian’s we are to defend, and stand against the oppression that we see. To be clear, however, any stand that we make needs to follow biblical principles, not the rights that the world has made up. Unfortunately, following biblical principles is not how the world wants Christians to stand against oppression.
