I Told My Wife I Was Just Going For A Short Run

So my distance terminology might just be a little wacky. When I told my wife that I was just going for a short run tonight she asked if I was running to the end of the street, which of course I responded with no I was just running 5 miles. She laughed. The other day on a work call I mentioned only running between 6-9 miles in the mornings, which got some puzzling responses as well. Having tackled 3 marathons, and putting in hundreds of training miles, I can say that I’m officially a long distance runner.

Today was a little bit of an off day since I ran in the evening. I’ve been managing a cold all week and not letting myself get enough sleep on top of it. I decided to sleep in instead of getting up early and running this morning in an effort to try and kick the cold. I also have to work late into the morning tonight too so I was trying to prepare for that also. I have to say that pace wise doing an evening run wasn’t so bad, however having had a late supper because my daughter’s softball game made for some interesting stomach feelings. This is one of those reasons why I prefer a morning run and not having all the food in my stomach.

I know it seems like I’m knocking out this running business in major ways but I still miss hanging out with the Hope Water team. I’m glad that I still stay connected through the online world with the team.

Sloshing Through A Wet Tuesday Long Run

Even though it had snowed the night before, it was a pretty wet run. When I got done my socks were soaked. One aspect of the slush that I don’t enjoy, besides the wet feet, is the buildup of ice that happens in my cleats and having to run with ice balls stuck to your feet. On the bright side it encouraged me to slow down. #HWI #Run4Water #WhyIRun #RiverBankRun

Back At It, Starting The Riverbank Run Training

I took about a week break for recovery after the Groundhog Marathon. Normally I’d start a reverse training following a marathon, but with only 3 months to go before the Riverbank Run I really couldn’t afford the time in order to get a good amount of training in. With some new shoes, and a fresh coat of snow, it felt good to be back out there stopping on the pavement. #HWI #Run4Water #WhyIRun #RBR

Back Running With The Hope Water Team

I’m definitely well on the way to recovery. I enjoyed a nice Saturday group run with the #HWI Daybreak Team. Great conversations with Todd, Nate, and Josh. It was a nice change of pace to just get out there and run and have no agenda in regards to distance or any specific pace. I definitely took Ron’s advice today and just had fun. I’m also excited to see a bunch of guys taking the next step and moving from their half marathon last year to a full this year. I think it might have pushed me into the decision to do another full marathon this year. I feel like having completed 3 marathons I can share my own experience to help others succeed in finishing…

    First “Long Run” of 2021

Started of this new year with a 10K Saturday “long run”, as my training plan called it. It was a tough run. #HWI #Run4Water #WhyIRun #RiverBankRun #Hello2021 #NewYear I can tell that this past year has taken a toll on my health. Unfortunately I’m a stress eater. I think food has always been something that I’ve used to feel good. Of course, when you live a pretty sedentary lifestyle, that causes weight gain and I struggled with that for many years. I haven’t gained all of the weight back that I lost a few years ago, staying active and running has helped with that. However, my eating habits this past year started to regress. I need to get back in track this year. I signed…

Not Quite A 5K, But A PR Nonetheless

After an 11 mile Tuesday run today seemed like it was barely worth getting out of bed for, but it is a necessary part of the training plan in order for it to be adjusted for how I’m actually doing. No worries about the lack of distance today as I believe I’m set to do a half marathon training run on Saturday. I was sort of hoping I might hit the 5K mark this morning but I was bit shy of that. I still managed some sort of PR. #HWI #Run4Water #WhyIRun #RiverBankRun #Endomondo
