4 Weeks Before The Big 26.2

https://www.hopewaterinternational.org/fundraisers/75

After a bad spill this past Tuesday I was back at the park for our weekly group run. I’m thankful this was an overall short distance running week. I can say that I’m feeling good and ready to tackle 20 miles next week. After that I’ll be faced with getting through another 6.2mi/10k on race day.

I’m ready for the challenge of race day because I know that the reason I’m running is bigger than 26.2 miles.

If I can save lives by facing the challenge of 26.2 miles how can that not be worth it. The only sad thing right now is that I’m so far away from my goal. Right now I need to raise about $225 a week. Simply sharing my successes in social media is not enough.

I’ve stepped things up in my running and now I need to step things up in my fundraising.

I know that right now is tough in regards to giving, with the hurricanes that have hit the States and there being such a huge need here how can people think about sending money outside of this country. One thing that is a huge difference as I see it is that even in spite of the devastation from these hurricanes there are so much resources and support available to our fellow Americans. For the people of Africa there is such a huge lack of support from their own country, and countrymen, most people are on their own with no options for clean water.

Most Africans only have the choice to drink water that will kill them or not drink water and die from dehydration.

I can’t imagine being in a position of having to choose which way I’m willing to die. Can you? Don’t get me wrong I’m not suggesting that anyone facing the devastation of the hurricanes is not in need of support be there is so much support available. I’m hoping that over the course of the next 4 Weeks I see those donations come in and I can be a bigger part of saving lives.

Picking Up The Pace On A Wednesday Training Run

I had the opportunity to witness, first hand, the water situation in Sierra Leone, Africa. It is an honor that Hope Water Intl is working with World Hope Intl in a joint mission to bring clean water to Africa. I am proud to know that #WHI is not just sending Americans into Africa to help and leave, but rather they train and employ locals to carry out the mission. Whether they need drivers, administration, or well drillers, nearly everyone is a national. I didn’t get a chance to hear each of their stories on how they got to where they are today. I can only imagine the amazing stories they must have. #HWI #Run4Water #WhyIRun #GRMarathon Donate to Clean Water: https://timn.me/2Kx7NEr

    First Recovery Walk

I’ll be honest, this morning was a hard place to be. I should be thankful that I was able to get out the door and get some steps in. It was just hard to enjoy a 50 minute walk when you’re coming from a normal pace of 3x the distance in that time. I know I’ll get back there over time. Hopefully I can start to enjoy the slow down. #HWI #RecoveryWalk

    A Training Run Of Reflection

This morning was not only filled with worship time but also some time of reflecting on the holiday and the joy of celebrating with family the birth of our Savior. I’m thankful for the day we had to put all of the challenges of recent days, weeks, and months aside and enjoy time together with family. The New Year is upon us and, as it approaches, I pray that God would continue to guide our family in fulfilling his plan. I also spent time thinking about the next Sierra Leone trip coming May, and the team God is putting together. I’m excited to see what He has in store. #HWI #Run4Water #WhyIRun #GRGus Donate to Clean Water – https://timn.me/2t9D4ne

Best 5K Yet, But What’s The Goal

Another day of enjoying the warmer outside weather. My pace has significantly increased and the last 2 days I’ve done a standard run with no intervals. Well actually, I was doing a Ghost Run, which the whole purpose is to best you’re previous time. I’m very happy with my progress however the question still remains for me, “What is my goal?”. My plan right now is to run the 5/3 Riverbank Run coming up this Spring. Since I’m already running a 5K at each workout then perhaps working on my time is where I should be focusing my attention. I still think I want to do the Grand Rapids Half Marathon this fall so I will need to do serious training for that distance. I…
