Thanksgiving Training Run

Got my own little 10k+ Turkey Trot in this morning. Staying on course as I train for the in February. Looking to represent the team at that event. After having my water freezing on me this morning I can already tell this is going to be an interesting training season. Oh, it looks like I happen to this morning, which wasn’t my intention, but it happened so that made for a nice way to start off the day.

Today started off a little bit slower. There was a little bit of a communication problem with breakfast but it all worked out with plenty of time before our World Hope transportation arrived. Extended Family Holiday Weekend

Had a great extended weekend with the family. Loved having the extra day and enjoyed many fun activities. It started Friday night with my wife and I renting and watching The Shack. Saturday was a busy day starting off with the HWI group run followed by getting supplies and materials to build a deck out back. On Sunday we enjoyed a great Sunday message as a campfire with the family, mother in-law, and father in-law. Monday we had a great morning at the Jenison Memorial Day Parade with the kids. Mom (i.e. Vanessa) was in the parade for the Saturday Slip & Slide so Dad (i.e. me) was in charge of getting the kids a good spot for candy collection. 😉 We wrapped up the rest…

Last Run Before Sierra Leone

I really didn’t want to get up this morning but I wanted to get 1 more run in before heading to #SierraLeone #Africa tomorrow. Despite having to drag myself out of bed I got another #PR for farthest distance in 1 hour, not bad. A Little Early Morning Half Marathon

Sticking to the #Endomondo training plan meant getting up before 4am to get 13 miles of running in before my wife needed to leave the house by 6:15. I can say that I was overjoyed having to get up so early, but the alternatives were even less appealing. One thing that something like a time commitment, making sure I was home so my wife could leave, does is give you extra motivation to keep up the pace. And that was definitely going through my mind several times. I’m not 100% certain why but my pace slowed slightly after I hit about mile 9. The Half Marathon Training Taper Begins

I’m now on the taper for the #HessLakeRun half marathon in a week and a half. This morning was supposed to be just an easy run but as is my m.o. I pushed it a bit beyond an easy run. It was surprisingly a fairly cool morning. Enjoyed listening to worship music and lifting up friends, co-workers, and family in prayer. I also couldn’t have a run without thinking about and praying for those in #SierraLeone that I met while there. #HWI #GRMarathon #Run4Water
