Missing The Hope Water Team on an Early Morning Long Run

I knew it was going to be a tough run going it alone, then when I stepped out the door and felt the heat and humidity there was no doubt I was going to have a rough go of it.

Since I had family stuff going on in the morning I had no choice but to get up early, 4:45am in fact, to get my run in. I would have like to have just finished up my run in time for the Hope Water group run gathering at Johnson Park but I just didn’t have time to do that and be ready to head out with the family.

I’ve always worked to ensure that my running doesn’t take away from my family, or at least as little as possible. The actual race days usually mean time away from the family, which is also why I keep the number of races to a minimum. There is the financial aspect of races as well so I also need to make sure my running isn’t impacting the family financially. I love it when my family is able to come out to a race and support me. My kids know so that also helps to reduce any negative impact my running could have on the family.

I got my miles in, despite the heat and humidity, and in time to head off with the family and support my son while he tests for his next Tae Kwon Do belt.

    Relegating To The Treadmill

With my wife out of town I can’t be leaving the kids home alone, this means the treadmill it is. I think this is the first time I’ve been on the treadmill probably in the last 8-10 months. I literally can’t remember the last time I had to use it. For times like these I’m glad we have it or there would be no running. Since the treadmill required significantly less thought, except for changing the speed during the short interval run segment, it gave me ample time to think about the Sierra Leone team and trip. I continue to pray for our team’s planning and the journey to come. #HWI #Run4Water #WhyIRun #RiverBankRun

Not Getting Caught Up With PRs And Race Pace

A little wet this morning but still nothing like last year’s #GRMarathon with the cold downpouring rain. Today being a longer race pace training run it was hard for me to not just focus on the run. With this type of training run you start thinking about what your race pace should be. It’s so easy to begin the comparison game and feel like you should be able to do better. What I’ve come to appreciate is that there are enough people in the running world that don’t let themselves get caught up in all the PRs, the studies on how to get better and so on. There are those that have found the place where running is about getting outside, staying active for their…

First Saturday Long Run After The 2019 GR Marathon

When a village is chosen to receive a well World Hope doesn’t just go install it and leave without investing time into the village. It becomes the responsibility of the village, through support from World Hope, to protect and care for, their well through the oversight of a leadership team from their village. When you partner with #HWI you can be certain that your gift will be impacting generations through a sustainable water program. #Run4Water #WhyIRun #GRGus Make A Impact, Give Today: https://timn.me/2Kx7NEr This morning was my first Saturday morning long run since completing the 2019 #GRMarathon and I felt pretty good afterwards. I got a little concerned a few weeks ago when I started having leg cramps at like mile 5. I think that…

Knocking Out 14 Miles For Clean Water

This past week I was reading a YouVersion devotional written by a marathon runner. The author talked about the point during the marathon when we are faced with the question “why am I doing this?”. This can also happen during those tough training days. #HWI #Run4Water #WhyIRun #GRGus Today was a good day, but on a long run the question of why can still pop up. Why did I wake up a 5am on a Saturday to run 14 miles? The reason for me is 3-fold. First is the mission to continue sharing the need for clean water. Second is do my best to stay active and healthy. The third reason is to be an example to my kids, and by getting up early I’m…

Being Thankful For My Health, And Focusing On Others

This morning I got myself to a place where I could honestly see that I was letting myself get wrapped up in my own pity party. I was losing sight of the opportunity to be thankful for my health and be focusing on those less fortunate. The big question came to mind of why I am running. Am I running for myself? Are my runs all about how far or fast I can run? It seems pretty obvious that I got myself far from where I should be. I turned things around this morning and spent some time in praise for how God has blessed me, and especially spent time lifting friends and family up in prayer that have bigger needs than me. #HWI #WhyIRun
