Focusing On The Distance Not The Pace

There is a reason the saying goes that “life is like a marathon, not a sprint” and it has to do with going the distance. Getting back to the basics of marathon training means focusing on slowing down and building up the endurance needed to finish well. If I’ve learned anything from this past year of training it’s that I lost sight of this fundamental part of training. If I have any hope of finishing well at the upcoming Groundhog Marathon I need to keep focus on that key piece of my training. Today I tried to keep that focus though I still finished with a much faster pace than my training plan directed. I’ll be working on that more in the weeks to come.

    Best 5K Yet, But What’s The Goal

    Another day of enjoying the warmer outside weather. My pace has significantly increased and the last 2 days I’ve done a standard run with no intervals. Well actually, I was doing a Ghost Run, which the whole purpose is to best you’re previous time. I’m very happy with my progress however the question still remains for me, “What is my goal?”. My plan right now is to run the 5/3 Riverbank Run coming up this Spring. Since I’m already running a 5K at each workout then perhaps working on my time is where I should be focusing my attention.     Warming Up With The Pace

    When you are a runner the colder winter temperatures are either a motivator or a demotivator. You are either going to be motivated to keep going, and keep warm, or you are going to be demotivated to not even step out the door. For me, most days my decision to run has little to so with the outside temperature, or weather. My decision usually depends on how tired I feel and if I want to go back to bed. Once I get out the door, then the outside temperature is my motivation for how fast I’m going to run. This morning the single digit temp helped me kick things up a notch.     Kicking Off The Week With A Nice Run

    This morning was one of those slow to get out of bed mornings. Once I got out and started breathing in some fresh crisp morning air I was awake and ready to roll. Especially after hitting play on the workout worship music. The first half of my run was time to just enjoy the worship music, the second half of my run I spent a lot of time in prayer. The combination of prayer, worship, and running it’s kind of a trifecta for me. I’m blessed that God had bought me to this place.
