Completing My Saturday Long Run, Just Shy of a Half Marathon

It was a cold tough morning. However, despite many times thinking I was going to just cut the run short because it was too cold, or my water was all frozen I still got the Saturday long run finished. It really does help to have the NRC guided run going with a coach checking in with you regularly along the way motivating you to keep going.

The Keyword is “Since” Not “If”

As a follow up to my previous post it’s important that we remember that everything we are called to do as a Christ follower is in the context of “since” and not “if”. What’s the difference? If we have the thinking, “if someone is doing ‘x’, or not doing ‘y’, they can’t be a believer”, we are basically inferring that someone has no faith or belief in Christ because of their actions. That’s a pretty big leap, and a sure fire way to further the view that Christians are righteous, judgemental, hippacrits, essentially modern day Pharisees. As we dig into the New Testament we’ll find it’s very clear that as a result of being, or “since” we are, Christ followers there should be a lot…

Training During The Winter, Treadmill Alternatives

So up until the end of December I’d been sticking out running outside. Since the snow began to fly I’ve taken things indoors on the dreaded treadmill. 😉 Currently the treadmill running has been thanks to a great 3-month deal on a gym membership. Once we move into our new house in February/March I’ll be on our own treadmill, which we picked up cheap(used) before Christmas. I’m planning on joining some of the Hope Water Project – Team Daybreak group runs starting this Saturday, which brings me to considering what it means to run in the cold. I came across this Runner’s World post today that has many ideas on ways to keep training in the Winter months, or cold climates. I think the most…

Pushing Through An Intense Speed Test Run

Back at it again this morning. It was an intense short training test run. I was hoping to see a #5K #PR but that may have to wait until Saturday when I do the #HotCiderHustle 5K. I had just ran the night before so my body hadn’t really had a ton of recovery time. I’ll be looking forward to representing #HWI at the Hot Cider Hustle. It sounds like there will be a few of us out there. I always love having the opportunity to share to share about the mission when I where my Hope Water blue. Reflecting On My Time In Sierra Leone

The TL;DR is: I am blessed more than I ever understood and I will make every effort to give thanks in all circumstances. Also, where God’s love exists there is always hope for something better. As I continue to process my experience in Sierra Leone Africa I can’t help but feel like I spent a week in another world. What I find simply amazing is that in a place so filled with hardship, and circumstances I can barely begin to comprehend, there are people that still manage to find joy, be generous, and show love and kindness to someone so very much unlike them. I chose this photo of children, not filled with smiles and laughter, but showing that theirs is a life of daily…

Providing More Than Just Clean Water

I’m getting closer to my goal, only $255 to go. Partner with me today to bring clean water to another 14 people. https://timn.me/2Kx7NEr #HWI #Run4Water #WhyIRun #GRMarathon Putting in a well in a village in Africa is not about just dropping a handout to people and then moving on. A well is the start of helping a village help themselves. The responsibility of the well, and the well-being of the village, is on a team of leaders from the village. A real example of the saying, “Give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and feed him for a lifetime.” It was a pretty good recovery run today. I was happy to have such a good pace after…
