Great HWI Group Run, And A Personal Best

1 Hour Personal Best

Had a great HWI Team Daybreak Group Run this morning. I love our community, and I especially love running with someone else. Training on your own definitely takes a lot of discipline, and having these group runs make for a great motivator to keep going during the week. I’m hopeful that I can join a couple guys I’ve been running with during the week for some training runs.

Oh, and to top things off I hit a Personal Best this morning for a 1 hour run. Great way to kick off the day and weekend!

    While Running Anything Can Happen

This week I was pretty off on my #training but I got my long run in today since I’ve got an all day conference tomorrow. It felt good to be back out running and I even felt good about my pace, for an easy long run. I’m not sure if it was God leading me but I started thinking about Sierra Leone and the next team going and wondered if I should consider leading the team. #HWI #GRMarathon #Run4Water #HessLakeRun #SierraLeone
  • Still Running for Clean Water

Even though the official running season for the West Michigan chapter of Hope Water has come to a close, the need for clean water hasn’t. An even more, someone has put up a $20,000 match from now until the Disney marathon the start of January. Right now all donations can have double the impact. What better time to give hope during this Christmas season. #HWI #Run4Water #WhyIRun #RiverBankRun Double your Christmas giving today: https://timn.me/2020HWI

An Easy Saturday “Long Run” To Finish Out The Week

I got out for a long overdue Saturday run, a “long run” as the training plan classified it. As expected, since it was a timed run I got more distance in than what was called for since pace is always a challenge for me. I still only got 3 runs in this week since my alarm didn’t get set on Thanksgiving day to get a short run in. #HWI #Run4Water #RiverBankRun #RBR At around 26°F it was a pretty crisp and frosty morning. I don’t think I had quite enough layers on but that kept me pretty motivated to keep up the pace to keep warm. That’s one aspect of winter running that I don’t think people really considering about winter running. With the temperatures…

Reflecting On How Far I’ve Come

When I look back to 2016 at this time I’m pretty amazed at how far I’ve come. At that time I was lucky to probably have gone 1 mile in around 30 minutes, and that was probably mostly walking. Comparing that to my run today I can honestly say that God used running to make a huge change in my life as well as the people of Sierra Leone, Africa. God has blessed me in my running. #HWI #Run4Water #WhyIRun #RiverBankRun

Moving On From A Marathon…It’s Really Not About Me

So today is the 2nd day since completing the marathon, and unfortunately I find myself in more of a discouraged state than in celebration of my accomplishment. There are many things going through my head, many thoughts that cause me to be more disappointed with marathon Sunday. Nothing played out like I had hoped. I ended up coming in behind most of all the other marathon runners from our group despite leading the pack throughout training. I didn’t get to cross the finish line with my running partner, or my kids. I ended up walking most of the last 4.5 miles. I ended up going to the medical aid tent after crossing the finish line. I have no photo of me crossing the finish line….
