Devotions for Sacred Parenting #25: Stop Judging and Start Loving

Do not judge others, and you will not be judged. For you will be treated as you treat others. The standard you use in judging is the standard by which you will be judged. - Matthew 7:1‭-‬2 NLT

“The sinful, selfish side of us truly wants and sometimes even expects a “perfect” child, but God doesn’t grant us “perfect” children in this fallen world—and even if he did, we imperfect parents would soon mess them up.” – Devotions for Sacred Parenting by Gary L. Thomas

I’m pretty sure I’m not alone with finding myself in a situation with my kids where I’ve thought to myself “why can’t my kids just behave? What’s wrong with them?”. The second question is normally followed up with the fact that my daughter is special needs, and that’s the “problem”. However, as I continue to learn God is in the business of changing lives, and he’s sure working to change me. Every day I see areas that I need to change, and grow, and not my kids that simply need to be “fixed”.

“Our job isn’t to judge them for what they’re not but to love them as they are.” – Devotions for Sacred Parenting by Gary L. Thomas

Too often I want my kids to be what I’ve decided I think they should be not what God has designed them to be. I make a bad habit of measuring what they do against my own flawed standards. God has placed these children in my care to teach them and to love them.

“every child stretches us, pushes us, challenges us, and—by God’s design—teaches us how to love.” – Devotions for Sacred Parenting by Gary L. Thomas

Every day I need to make the decision, am I going to teach or demand, am I going to love them for who God has made them to be or judge them for not measuring up to what I think they should be.

Expanding The Meaning Of Running For Water

So this morning, after making it about a quarter of a mile from home, I realized I had forgotten to grab my water when I walked out the door. At that point I really didn’t feel like going back home and starting my run over. The first half of the run was OK, but the second half was a bit more of a struggle without my water, making my #Run4Water mean even more than normal. As I continued through my run, #WhyIRun was at the forefront of my mind. My struggle doesn’t even compare to the daily struggle for clean water that those in Sierra Leone, Africa face. I had the benefit of a virtually unlimited supply of water waiting for me after the run….
  • Time To Get Serious: Week One Reflection

To recap the studies of the week, let God be God, practice His presence, seek to live a holy life. As I was thinking about it, it seems like whenever we learn something new about God we go and stick Him in a box again. When we get to know God we start to think we know God. The reality of it is we only get glimpses of what God is and until we go to be with Him we will never really know God here on earth. For me, keeping the thought of worshiping God daily is a very hard one. It gets to be too easy to just go about the things of the day without giving thanks to God through out it….

    11 Frosty Beard Miles

Today marks the last of my longer training runs as the taper begins before marathon day. The temp this morning was in the high teens which resulted in a pretty frosty beard. I ended up pushing things a little harder than the training plan called for, but I was trying to make it back home at a decent time. I ended up a bit slower the second half because I pushed things a bit harder than I should have, but that’s just the way it goes. I finished the last half mile strong though. #HWI #Run4Water #WhyIRun #GRGus Give clean water: https://timn.me/2Kx7NEr

    Another Day, Another Dollar…

Well another day gone. I didn’t feel like I got as much done today as I wanted, but that always seems to be the case. I didn’t even make it to any breaks today. Nothing too special went on today other than the normal Tuesday/Thursday work. Got an exciting email today. Moe Gifts had it’s first sale today! It was someone in Virginia. Don’t kow how they found the site. The site tracker I installed doesn’t seem to be giving very accurate results. My hope is that some of the link exchange work I did is how they got there.
  • Time To Get Serious: He’s Everywhere

Isaiah 43:1-7, God is omnipresent, today’s reading is talking about how God is everywhere and cannot be contained. However, it talks about two different kinds of being present. One is His essence and being everywhere in His fullness, the other is His presence in His relationship to us. When Jesus was on the cross, God the Father was there, but Christ called out “My God! Was have You forsaken Me”, so there was a lack of God Father’s relationship being there. This passage in Isaiah is talking about how God has a special presence with His children, which is not there with those that aren’t His children. As Christians, God is not only around us but with us every step on our walk. This reminds…

Enjoying The Start Of A New Training Week

I enjoyed a shorter easy training run this morning. I guess it wasn’t super short as it was long enough to feel like I could get my mind off of the running and start listening to the words of the worship music playing and lift up those that God brought to my mind that needed prayer this morning. Despite the challenges some days I am truly blessed with all that God had given me and what he has given me the opportunity to be a part of. #HWI #Run4Water #WhyIRun #GRGus Donate to Clean Water – https://timn.me/2t9D4ne
