Fighting The Urge To Just Go Back To Bed

It was tough to get going this morning. After another rough night with my daughter not being able to sleep I had all I could do to not just go back to bed after the alarm went off. Once I actually got the pavement my pace was a slow start for sure. I’m happy to say though that by the end things had turned around. I did enjoy a good time in prayer and worship. I not only lifted up some recent needs, and praise, but I also lifted up the people in Sierra Leone that are still struggling to gather clean water for their families. I also lifted up our Enable The Children sponsored child and his family. I know that life is a struggle in general having a special needs child, and to be abandoned, shunned by your community, all on top of the general living conditions in Sierra Leone, life could seem pretty unbearable for Alimamy’s mother.

    3rd 5K, Tough Morning…Inclines

This morning felt like a pretty big challenge. It being my 3rd 5K this week I just felt off from the start. After looking at my distance climbed I think I understand why today felt like so much of a struggle, I had about 90 feet of incline then my last 2 5Ks. Looks like the machine decided to take things up a notch today. I’m not unhappy with my pace. It just feels like I took a step back from the start of the week. I think my body is still recovering from lack of sleep since I was up way late the night before last. I hope it’ll work to make it to a HWP group run soon. Focusing On The Distance Not The Pace

There is a reason the saying goes that “life is like a marathon, not a sprint” and it has to do with going the distance. Getting back to the basics of marathon training means focusing on slowing down and building up the endurance needed to finish well. If I’ve learned anything from this past year of training it’s that I lost sight of this fundamental part of training. If I have any hope of finishing well at the upcoming Groundhog Marathon I need to keep focus on that key piece of my training. Today I tried to keep that focus though I still finished with a much faster pace than my training plan directed. I’ll be working on that more in the weeks to come….

Getting In Some Miles Early On A Wet Wednesday

As I was running in the rain this morning it got me thinking about the hardship that the rainy season causes for many in Sierra Leone. Like those that work for Enable The Children, the children with disabilities ministry, and those that #ETC supports. #HWI #Run4Water #WhyIRun It’s crazy to think that something like rain, which should be a blessing to a people in desperate need of clean water, could cause hardship. For many though, the rainy season makes it challenging to get around and do things like sell their goods at the market. A well also brings safety during the rainy season both from a health standpoint as well as from the risks of trying to gather water from moving water like streams. Help…
