Training During The Winter, Treadmill Alternatives

So up until the end of December I’d been sticking out running outside. Since the snow began to fly I’ve taken things indoors on the dreaded treadmill. 😉 Currently the treadmill running has been thanks to a great 3-month deal on a gym membership. Once we move into our new house in February/March I’ll be on our own treadmill, which we picked up cheap(used) before Christmas. I’m planning on joining some of the Hope Water Project – Team Daybreak group runs starting this Saturday, which brings me to considering what it means to run in the cold. I came across this Runner’s World post today that has many ideas on ways to keep training in the Winter months, or cold climates. I think the most interesting idea that I’d never thought of was finding a parking garage, even more specifically an underground one. Parking garages have a lot of running space and are usually out of the elements, and mostly free from things like ice. The article does speak about ways to make the “dreaded treadmill” not so dreaded. Going to have to give some of these ideas some consideration. I really can’t wait to get back outside again though!

When A Run Turns Into A Fight, With Yourself

This morning wasn’t hard because of the weather, the terrain, or my physical state, this morning my run was consumed with a battle of my emotions and an ugly part of me that rears it’s head every now and then. Unfortunately, I spent little time during my run in worship or prayer, most of it was spent asking God to change my heart. I have struggled with grace taking a back seat when life gets tough, when I’m faced with the reality of an imperfect world. I quickly turn to frustration and anger. It’s a side of me that I’m ashamed of and generally ends up turning my thoughts against myself with feelings of negative self worth and the desire to just run away from…

Overcoming The Tough Interval Training Runs

After a couple of weeks of tough interval runs I finally nailed one pretty well. I think my take away is that when it comes to training, as with much in life, you are going to have hard days that you can barely get through. Those are the days you have to have in order to have growth and future success. So we need to celebrate the hard days just as well as good days. #HWI #Run4Water #WhyIRun #GRGus Donate to Water, to Life – https://timn.me/2t9D4ne

    A Brutal Winter Run

Wow, that is all I can say about the weather this morning on my run. Between the freezing rain pelting me, the massive wind gusts, and the snow-covered sidewalks that reduced my traction to almost zero, let’s just say I felt like I ran 12 miles not just shy of 6. I laugh because today was supposed to be an easy run day, and with that pace you might think I took it slow but that wasn’t really what went down. Mornings like this make it hard to focus on much else than the will power to keep going and get it done. #HWI #Run4Water #WhyIRun #RiverBankRun

Great Training Run With Friends This Morning

Loved being able to do a training run with other guys. 3 things happen, first you’re building relationships and community. Second you’re keeping your heart rate and pace in check as you carry on a conversation, or try to. ? And last the time and miles seem to fly by since you’re focusing less on them. So many benefits, it’s too bad life didn’t allow for all training runs to be with a running partner. [endomondowp type=’workout’ workout_id=’933214802′] Michigan, United States of America

Not Quite A 5K, But A PR Nonetheless

After an 11 mile Tuesday run today seemed like it was barely worth getting out of bed for, but it is a necessary part of the training plan in order for it to be adjusted for how I’m actually doing. No worries about the lack of distance today as I believe I’m set to do a half marathon training run on Saturday. I was sort of hoping I might hit the 5K mark this morning but I was bit shy of that. I still managed some sort of PR. #HWI #Run4Water #WhyIRun #RiverBankRun #Endomondo
