Patience, Persistence, And Keeping On – Keeping On

“What’s the secret to being a good bull rider?”

When a newspaper reporter asked a Montana cowboy that question, he pushed back his hat and grinned: “You’ve just gotta want to hang on worse than the bull wants to throw you off.”

I just finished day 1 of the @YouVersion Plan Men’s Devotional: For Men, By Men.

Psalm 11:4-7 – The scripture for today talks about God’s Holiness and our sinfulness. I think it becomes so easy, and wrongfully so, for Christians to begin to rank sin. The reality of it is that in God’s eyes there is no one that is more sinful than another. I know we can think that as Christian were better, and not nescesarily boasting in that, but we think those that maybe aren’t Christians are so much worse than we are. Boy are we deceived. God is Holy and perfect and can’t stand the hint of sin. As Christians the difference for us, as compared to someone that isn’t a Christian, is that we have Christ standing in place for us. The decision we make to…

Where’s The Line…Freedom in Christ or Good Witness

(1 Corinthians 14:13-25) In my devotion time today, Paul was again talking to the church in Corinth about matters of witness to unbelievers and escentially the freedom found in Christ. The problem for the early church, and I would say that this problem has not gone away, was that for the unbelievers (or even weak or new in faith) there were things that they didn’t understand which easily turned them off to Christianity. The hard part comes in that God has called us, as Christians, to be different than this world. While we are to be different we are also to do so, not in a way that turns people away, but in a way that draws other to Christ. There comes decisions which have…
  • Time To Get Serious: Telling The Truth

Isaiah 6:1-7, this morning I’m feeling very OK with my openness on my blog. I’m also once again thankful for Bruce’s comments to me yesterday. Today’s topic of truth talked about how as people we tend to sugar-coat the truth or complete lie with people. It is so easy for us to be shallow, and “nice Christians” that would do say the hard things that count. God of course is nothing like that and shares with us the complete honest truth, whether hard to hear or not. This devotional also does a little convicting, as it should, as I know that I stay pretty quite many times and don’t open up and be honest with people. How many times have we all, when being asked…

    God’s Timing…Not Ours

(Exodus 11:1-10) Looking again at the story of Moses being used by God to bring the Isrealites out of Egypt, we can see that things didn’t go as the people, or Moses, had hoped. God, however, had a perfect plan in mind. I’ve talked about it before, but once again I am reminded, that in all things God has a plan for us. I really like both Proverbs 19:21 and also Proverbs 16:9, they both make it very clear that even though we may have something in mind, it’s ultimately God who is in control. It can be very hard to accept God’s control and plan for our lives, especially when we have to deal with tough stuff. It can be very easy for us…

What You Say Is A Reflection Of The State Of Your Heart

The function of your mouth is a product of the things that dwell in your heart. In order to tame your tongue, you must first examine your heart and get it right with God. #JamesChallenge James Challenge In this age of social media I’m seeing far too often where people, and especially those that claim to be Christians, spewing words they have no business putting out for all the world to see. Long ago I made to decision that if I what I have to say is not uplifting or helpful I’m not going to share it. Now a post like this could be debatable in that regard, but I’m also not afraid to share God’s truth. As Christ followers we are called to a…
