Final Flight Leg and Arriving in Sierra Leone

We got on our flight to Paris. It was nice to have most of us fairly close together on the flight.

We had a short time in Paris at the airport. Got some coffee recharged electronic device and took a chance to get to know each other better.

Mike likes to be the jokester of the group. I don’t think any of us got much sleep in on the flight from Paris to Freetown. Dawn beat me at a game of checkers on the in flight media system.

Leaving the airport was quite the experience and spectacle. We had a large group of young men that insisted on helping us get to the World Hope vehicles.

Curtis and I got to ride in the World Hope pickup on the drive to Makeni. Nothing like experiencing driving at night in Africa. I’m thankful for our driver’s ability to master navigating around everything from goats, ducks, children, scooters/motorcycles loaded with people, broken down vehicles, and on coming traffic that seemed to own the road.

The rest of the team road in the van together.

    Wells And Wellness…And Treadmills

I decided to run on the treadmill this morning for my speed work, partly due to the down pouring rain. It was the toughest training run I’ve had in awhile. I’ve always considered the treadmill as the most boring and dreaded running you can do. I’ve starting to change my opinion on the treadmill. Instead of the dreaded thing I’ve always seen it as, however I have some to respect it, it challenges you in ways that the outdoors doesn’t. Needless to say today the treadmill won. I only made it to 6 miles and cut the last 23 minutes of my run. I did this photo collage to show that I not only #Run4Water but I also run for my health. About 3.5 years…

Kicking It Into High Great After A Day Of Rest

After taking the previous day off due to lack of sleep I was more than ready to go this morning. So much so that I was pretty much in a comfortable high gear for most of the run. It helps to be rockin’ the worship music right along with my run. I have to give credit to those longer hard speed work training days too. I’m still looking for a few more people that might consider donating to wells in Africa as the year comes to an end and Christmas approaches. #HWI #Run4Water #WhyIRun #GRGus Donate to Water – https://timn.me/2t9D4ne

    Monday Morning Recovery Run

What started out being a pretty easy going run turned out to be much faster than I had expected. I was checking my heart rate the whole time and only once did it rise just a hair past 150. My pace just ended up being what it was based on how I ended up doing with my heart rate. What’s encouraging to me is to see what appears to be my heart health getting better. I feel God has definitely blessed me through my running. Honestly, one of the big helpers with my runs is listening to a worship workout album. There are moments when I am so focused on the song that I forget about the running. I did take some time this morning…

Back In The High [Intensity] Life Again

After a brief hiatus on Tuesday, no thanks to a cold and a bad nights rest, I was back out for my early morning run. I really had my butt kicked with a high intensity interval run. I think my only slight advantage was have a previous week of out of the park fast runs. I could sure tell that I had missed a day of running though. Regardless of how tough it might have been it still felt good to be back out running. On Tuesday when I didn’t get out for my run the whole day seemed off. I’m not sure how I’m going to get my Saturday run in with being out of town in a trip to Chicago. We’ll see. #HWI…
