Just Another 11 Mile Saturday Run For Clean Water

In the U.S. we have access to many things that we end up just taking for granted. And it’s not a matter of doing something wrong it’s just what we are used to. When a village receives a well it is a big celebration of thankfulness. During this season of celebrating the greatest gift of all remember those that don’t have some of the basic necessities such as clean water.

    When clean water is brought to a community it’s not done suddenly and randomly then moving on to another random village. World Hope(#WHI) works with a carefully chosen village to establish ownership of the well by that village. The village agrees to manage and care for the well in order to serve their community for the long term. The are taught how to maintain and repair the well, and are tasked with protecting it as well. This model follows the saying, “Give a man a fish, feed him today.     Running, Community, And Living With Purpose

    I read this story tonight and it got me thinking about the journey I’ve been on but even more the HWI Daybreak community that I’ve been blessed to be apart of. Running has become for me something I couldn’t even have fathomed a little more than a year ago. Running for me is apart of who I am, and the relationships I’m building are a huge part of that as well. I hope that my running and my journey can be a light of Hope in the lives of people I share it with.

    Even though the official running season for the West Michigan chapter of Hope Water has come to a close, the need for clean water hasn’t. An even more, someone has put up a $20,000 match from now until the Disney marathon the start of January. Right now all donations can have double the impact.     Would You Rather…Run In 90 Degree Heat Or A Foot Of Snow?

    There wasn’t a foot of snow this morning, it was probably more like 6 inches, but it still made for a tough go of it as you still need good traction to move. I almost wiped out on a slick spots in the Family Faire parking lot towards the end of my run. #HWI #Run4Water #WhyIRun #GRGus In regards to “would you rather”, my preference is winter running over hot summer running any day. It’s significantly easier getting yourself warmed up by running than it is to get cooled down. Then again it does matter what weather conditions you might expect for any race you plan on running. Given I’ll be running the Groundhog Marathon at the beginning of February the more terrible winter runs…

    Hitting The Pavement After The Grand Rapids Marathon

    Back in the saddle with an “easy” 9 mile run. I’m still finding it hard to keep a consistent pace. I tried to keep it in the 10:14 min/mile pace but it’s hard for me to get in a rhythm at that pace. It felt good to be back out running again after the marathon. I enjoy the quiet time. I’m still trying to hit the $2000 mark for clean water. I’ve only got $350 more to go.
