A Better Tuesday Long Run, Working On Endurance

In Sierra Leone, Africa, many have no choice but to endure miles of travel to access water, and for many that water isn’t safe but they don’t have any other options. The need for clean water it’s great, and through Hope Water International, progress is being made, but we’re not done yet.

This morning I really worked on slowing my pace to fall in line with the training plan. I had a much better pace today than a few days ago. It was definitely a focus on endurance than speed. In some ways slowing down is more work than it is to speed up.

I’d like to see if I continue to work on my endurance if I can get back to a long run fast pace. Regardless of how things go I’m still blessed that I can manage most of the long runs.

Tackling The Ice Mounds, An Endurance Test

It was a tough go of it this morning tackling the ice mounds left behind by the snow plows. Winter running is not the time to be working on speed that is for sure. Many times I had to take to running on the snow covered grassy areas in order not to trip and fall. I should stress here the importance of wearing proper footwear when running in the winter, and that means wearing some sort of cleats. There would have been no way I would have escaped some sort of injury if it hadn’t been for my cleats. #HWI #Run4Water #WhyIRun #GRGus Help Provide Clean Water: https://timn.me/2Kx7NEr

The Return Of The Running Selfie

Donate to Clean Water: https://timn.me/2Kx7NEr #HWI #Run4Water #WhyIRun #GRMarathon Things felt good this morning, especially with the cooler temperature. I’m hopeful that today’s run is a sign that my Saturday long run will go better this week. No matter whether we have a “bad” day or a good one, just getting out there and putting in some miles shows our commitment to the cause. Ultimately, more wells in Africa is the real goal regardless of how a training run goes. I haven’t seen any donations come in for my $1000 goal yet but I’m hopeful that someone will be inspired and moved to join with me every time I share.

Day Before The Big Run, Grand Rapids Marathon 2018

Headed down to the Grand Rapids YMCA downtown and picked up my race packet and checked out the expo. Enjoyed chatting with some #HWI folks as well as some race organizers for other marathons that take place in the Spring. Who knows maybe another marathon besides the #GRMarathon will be in my future some day. I am signed up for the #RiverBankRun this next May, so looking forward to some winter training for that. I’m still looking to hit that $2000 mark for wells in Africa. I have about $750 to go. There’s still time to partner with me if you haven’t yet. #Run4Water #WhyIRun Donate to Water, to Life – https://timn.me/2t9D4ne

An Early Morning 8.5 Before A Family Day

Finally getting this posted. It was a busy, but fun, family day. I needed to get my run done early but I still finished with some daylight. I am committed to my training but I’m always trying my best to not let it negatively impact my family. I’ll sacrifice a late night, or some sleep, before I’ll sacrifice family time. #HWI #Run4Water #WhyIRun #RiverBankRun

    4th 5K…Struggling With My Progress

Since I had more time today, day off today, I took an extra 4 minutes to cool down. Lost the full stats but caught my average minutes per mile to be 10. Feeling a bit frustrated with that average given that my best average to date was 9:31min/mi, just a week ago. :-/ I feel like I’m getting worse not better. Need to figure out what’s going on. Maybe I’m just expecting too much. [endomondowp type=’workout’ workout_id=’859517296′ ] Pro Gym, Jenison, Michigan
