Nice to Have Some Cooler Running Weather Again to Kick Off The Week

Any morning I get up and get some miles in is a success, today was especially one of those. It was a rough night with not very good sleep, and I was tempted to just go back to bed to get some more rest. After last week’s hard training runs, including skipping my Monday run, I didn’t want to see a repeat. It was slow to get out the door but I did, and to my surprise it was cooler than is had been. Needless to say, I not only got my run in, I also got my best time for a 4 mile run in awhile.

Running can’t be just about hitting PRs, or running your fastest race. We all get older, and in time, we aren’t going to be getting any faster, we’ll only be getting slower. At some point we might be able to maintain a specific speed for awhile, but eventually our bodies will have had enough. When running becomes more about making a difference in the world, and impacting others, it doesn’t matter how far or fast you run but the message of hope that you share with others.

Day Camp in Kathirie, Celebration And Sharing The Love

Today started off a little bit slower. There was a little bit of a communication problem with breakfast but it all worked out with plenty of time before our World Hope transportation arrived. Terry and I actually had a little time to chat with some of the hotel staff after breakfast during and after the butchering of our goat. Yes, Terry and I got to see them butchering “litte Ron” as some of us liked to call him. We explained a little bit about Hope Water International and the partnership with World Hope. Once our rides arrived we loaded up and headed to the office to meet up with some World Hope staff that would be joining us for the day in Katherie. Once things…

When A Run Turns Into A Fight, With Yourself

This morning wasn’t hard because of the weather, the terrain, or my physical state, this morning my run was consumed with a battle of my emotions and an ugly part of me that rears it’s head every now and then. Unfortunately, I spent little time during my run in worship or prayer, most of it was spent asking God to change my heart. I have struggled with grace taking a back seat when life gets tough, when I’m faced with the reality of an imperfect world. I quickly turn to frustration and anger. It’s a side of me that I’m ashamed of and generally ends up turning my thoughts against myself with feelings of negative self worth and the desire to just run away from…

Knocking Out The Saturday Morning Long Run – 25K Training

I honestly don’t know what changed this week, but as far as my running goes I have felt great this week. Knocking out the runs with paces that have far exceeded my expectations. I’m not sure if this means my training schedule is too easy for where I’m really at or I am just pushing myself too hard. One would like to think that after training and completing 4 marathons that you would see some improvements. However, I’m getting older so that typically means getting slower, but I’m fortunately not seeing that yet. I would have to say that many of my fast runs this week have easily been affected by tuning into the worship running music I listen too. Instead of being the one…

    First Day in Sierra Leone

I had a great night’s sleep at the hotel. Where we are staying there are multiple buildings of rooms. Each of us has our own room and bathroom. I was honestly blown away with the accommodations. As I mentioned to my wife, I was humbled by the accommodations compared to living conditions we passed by on our drive to the hotel the previous evening. After breakfast, which included eggs, toast, fruit, and a hotdog, we loaded up in the World Hope vehicles on our way to Kethirie for church. It was so amazing to experience worship with the people of Kathirie and listen to the pastor and children’s ministry teacher give messages. What impacted my the most was seeing the people of Kathirie giving offerings…
