Being A Developer For Life…Can I Keep It Up?

photo credit: LeeroyBy now you’ve probably seen the viral clip of a father getting interrupted by his children while giving a live interview on BBC. Working parents everywhere, especially remote workers, could identify with the humorous embarrassment of the situation. Even those who have had pets interrupt Skype calls know the feeling. You want to… via Hacker News Question: Developers with kids, how do you skill up? — WordPress Tavern I’ve had many discussions with one of my good friends and fellow developers on this very subject. The key is keeping it all in balance and managing the priorities. It is tough sometimes, and I have to realize that I can’t do it all, but I also have to keep in mind that I can accomplish…

Prequel To The Groundhog Day Marathon?

It was a tough run this morning the snow covered sidewalks and pathways really took their tole the further I got into my run. On top of that my CamelBak nozzle froze up and couldn’t get any water for a good portion of the second half of my run. What was supposed to be a 17 mile run ended up being only a 15 mile run. I had my mask on to help cover my face from the wind, which I’m so thankful I had decided to that otherwise my face probably would have been frozen. There is no telling what the weather is going to be like come February 2nd, for the Groundhog Day Marathon. After today’s experience I’m a little more concerned about…

Back In The Saddle After Marathon Rest Week

So I wasn’t sure where to start after taking a week off after the Groundhog Day Marathon but I did need to get into a 25K training plan to prepare for the River Bank Run coming up in May. Naturally I took to #Endomondo to outline a customized training plan, so 8.8 miles for today is what was called for. It felt great to be back out putting some miles in again. I was missing the extra quiet time, and the extra time to just be in worship and open dialogue with God. It’s a lot easier to hear God speak when you are out early in the morning, in the dark, on a run with none of the hustle and bustle of life at…

Another 15 Miles For Clean Water

Help Bring Clean Water to Africa: https://timn.me/2Kx7NEr #HWI #Run4Water #WhyIRun #GRMarathon Now is the time to be kicking the fundraising into high gear. We have a $50,000 matching gift right now. Anyone that gives will have their donation doubled. It’s like a buy-one-get-one donation. ? #BOGOGiving Why not take advantage and double your impact! I didn’t get up early enough to get the additional 2 miles in that was on the HWI training plan, but I met the #Endomondo training plan miles. I knocked out the run with a pretty fast pace to get done before the running group met at 7am. It was way faster than the 9:53/9:23 pacing I was supposed to be running. I made it in time though.

A Wet Thursday For Speed Work

Today was a speed work day, and so it goes with those my mind was pretty much totally focused on my run and hitting the target paces. I did still have the worship music going so I was at least still able to connect with God that way. Even though it was a wet run it did help to keep me cool, especially on the intense intervals. #HWI #Run4Water #WhyIRun #GRMarathon Donate to Clean Water: https://timn.me/2Kx7NEr Hudsonville, MI
