Your Attention Please…

(Exodus 3:1-5) So God used a burning bush to get Moses attention. What does He use today to get our attention. I’m reminded of something a pastor said recently, “can we hear God’s whisper in this loud world?”, can we? The world that we live in is definitely busier and louder than in Biblical times. It took a burning bush even then to get Moses attention. Are we ready and willing to hear the whisper of God as He speaks to us?

One of my favorite songs right now is “Praise You in This Storm” and part of the chorus goes:

As the thunder rolls, I barely hear your whisper through the rain, “I’m with you”

That thunder is the things of this world, and the things we deal with in our lives that are shouting at us and drowning out God’s whisper. We are in such need of times of quiet, to get away from the busyness of life, so that we can be in a place to hear God’s voice.

God can use a lot of things to get our attention though. At times it seems that He usually attempts to get our attention most when hardship comes. I Do Not imply that all of our hardships are coming from God, actually God is not the one that makes hardships happen, rather He allows us to face hardships that are a result of a fallen world. Perhaps it is more a result of us realizing that we have a need for God during those hard times? When we can get through is on our own, or on the strength of those around us, where else is there to turn but God? It is however very sad that at times that is what it takes for us to come to Him. He desires to have a daily relationship, and walk, with us. Then again we so easy fall into the loud noise of this world. We get easily distracted when things seem to be going smoothly for us. God desires to share with us the goods times as well, not just the hard times.

Is There An Online Spiritual Battle Raging?

Here’s some thoughts I had while chatting on IM tonight. timnolte: I’m getting this sense that there is a big battle raging right now for our youth timnolte: I’m starting to question where this blog thing is taking people timnolte: I’ve actually noticed a few concerning things as I’ve browsed through some of the camp staff xanga sites too timnolte: I’m starting to feel like this battle is taking place on the internet where parents can’t see it timnolte: I started getting this thought about there being a need for a ministry that focuses on youth who spend a lot of time online…. timnolte: I think the lack of physical interaction and a false sense of anonymity is giving Satan an opening for his lies…
  • Time To Get Serious: God Can Handle It

Ephesians 1:1-6, today’s study talks mostly of how great and self-sufficient God is. It is pointed out that just by the very complexity and detail of nature, God shows his power and greatness. God didn’t have to create us, but it pleased Him to do so, this is also what gives us hope. God didn’t have to make a way for salvation, but He did because of his love for us. Well, the thoughts for this morning are not very long but our response to God’s grace and self-sufficient power ought to be one of praise and thanksgiving. Amen!
  • Time To Get Serious: Life’s Greatest Pursuit

Today begins a great step for me. I’ve gotten up in time for devotions & quite time, and looks like I’ll get to work a little earlier. I started reading a devotional I picked up some time ago. Time To Get Serious by Tony Evans. The reading for today seems to fit right along with Pastor Dave’s message yesterday. The key scripture Philippians 3:3-7 was when Paul was talking about all the things he could boast in but that none of it meant anything next to Christ. While the devotional talked a lot about things we tend to boast about, and honestly I rarely feel there is anything I tend to boast about, the biggest message was that getting to know God is the only…

    Have I Forgotten?

I know that morning will come too soon, I’ve got to be to work by 5am, but once again I find myself searching. I love how God is always tugging at me and wanting to stretch, and most of all asking me to continue on the path towards Him. Something that has been pulling at me for the past month is my concern that I’ve began living my life for myself. I struggle with Paul’s warning against getting married, and I can see already how my life is about to change. I will no longer have the freedom I once did to serve God and think of nothing else. I’m getting married in a little over 2 weeks and I will have someone in my…

    Busy Night…Small World

Well, today (er, I guess looking at the time I have to say tomorrow), it was a pretty slow day at work. Had a fun time talking about bread with a co-worker, she has like 3 bread machines, seems like her family would have bread coming our of their ears. From the conversations in the break room today you could definitely tell it was a Friday. After work I stopped at the seminary to meet with Phil to talk about a projector installation project. This will probably be a side job, which means some extra cash. It shouldn’t take too much to get a list of the equipment needed and do the install. I decided I wanted to get over to the play at “A…

    Wasteful Weekends, Geeks…Gotta Love Em

So yeah, I pretty much wasted the weekend away again. Not totally, but I could have done a lot more than I did. I guess I sort of get tired of doing stuff, like work, all the time and want some time to just kick back and relax. I’m feeling like I’m kind of spinning my wheels with the web job. I really like to nail down the site design before I do the custom programming stuff. The problem is they’ve given me hardly anything to work with. Well Monday will have to be a big day to work on getting stuff going. I guess I’m going to worry less about the design and make sure the funcitonality is all there. So yeah, not much…
