Tackling The Wind And The Rain

This morning was a cold, wet, and windy run to meet up with the Hope Water team. I did enjoy running with some of the team for about a mile-and-a-half before parting and finishing out my last 6.5 miles.

The trek back home was quite a bit harder given that I was running into the wind instead of with the wind. It also didn’t help that I really had to kick things into higher gear to start to arrive by 8am to run with the team. I probably should have gotten up a little bit earlier to give myself an extra 15 minutes or so of running time. The important thing is that I made it there and finished the run.

Reverse Training Run For A 25K Recovery

So there’s always the question of what do you do for running after you’ve finished a race, especially if you been on a training plan that ends with that race. Everyone needs to figure out what is best for themselves but one option is to reverse your training plan for a bit. Coming off of the 25K, and still being sore the day after, I decided that following the reverse training plan tactic might be best. I honestly can’t explain how it is that I ended up hitting the crazy pace other than it just felt right and I didn’t feel like I was killing myself. Actually, as my run went on my pace got faster. It feels pretty good to have exceeded my goal…

Training During The Winter, Treadmill Alternatives

So up until the end of December I’d been sticking out running outside. Since the snow began to fly I’ve taken things indoors on the dreaded treadmill. 😉 Currently the treadmill running has been thanks to a great 3-month deal on a gym membership. Once we move into our new house in February/March I’ll be on our own treadmill, which we picked up cheap(used) before Christmas. I’m planning on joining some of the Hope Water Project – Team Daybreak group runs starting this Saturday, which brings me to considering what it means to run in the cold. I came across this Runner’s World post today that has many ideas on ways to keep training in the Winter months, or cold climates. I think the most…

    Final Week Before Marathon Day

I hit my $1000 fundraising goal but there are many other team members still working to reach their goals. Partner with #HWI and help bring clean water to those in need. https://www.hopewaterinternational.org/teams/49 #Run4Water #WhyIRun #GRMarathon There are only 5 more days before the Grand Rapids Marathon, which will be my 4th marathon. This week the number of runs is winding down, with only a short interval run this morning. I’ll do another short easy run on Thursday. It’s hard to believe that the marathon is this week already. No matter how much I train I always still feel a little nervous going into a race. There are many on the team where this will be their first full or half marathon, and the good thing…
