Running Is My One On One Time

It’s still a little bit to get used to doing these longer “midweek” runs on a Monday instead of a Tuesday, but I think I’m getting into a groove with it. It’s nice to have a long “easy” run on a Monday where is can spend a lot of time listening to worship music, listening for God’s direction, and presenting the needs of friends and family to Him. I can honestly say that getting our for a morning run has not only been good for my physical health but it’s had a huge impact on my spiritual health as well. I do enjoy group runs but there is something to be said for having time where it’s just you, the pavement, and God.

I spent some time this morning thinking about and praying specifically for the village of Ronkorhun, Sierra Leone, the village that I visited that was in so desperate need of water. I need to contact the pastor that traveled with us to find out how they are coming along. I’m trusting that God has the plan in motion for the people of Ronkorhun.

Knocking Out 14 Miles For Clean Water

This past week I was reading a YouVersion devotional written by a marathon runner. The author talked about the point during the marathon when we are faced with the question “why am I doing this?”. This can also happen during those tough training days. #HWI #Run4Water #WhyIRun #GRGus Today was a good day, but on a long run the question of why can still pop up. Why did I wake up a 5am on a Saturday to run 14 miles? The reason for me is 3-fold. First is the mission to continue sharing the need for clean water. Second is do my best to stay active and healthy. The third reason is to be an example to my kids, and by getting up early I’m…

A Hot Morning Run To Remember Sierra Leone

We’re definitely into the hot #summer runs. I can’t imagine doing my #training run later in the day with this heat, especially not with lots of water. I thought 1 bottle was going to be enough this morning, boy was I wrong. Despite the heat I still had a good time focusing on prayer and listening to God. Especially remembering those in Sierra Leone that impacted me. #HWI #HessLakeRun #GRMarathon #Run4Water

    A Nice Sunny Saturday Run

It was nice to get out just when the sun first came up for my Saturday run, and the temperature was just right too. It’s not too often I get to run in the daylight. There was a bit more people out at that time, than my normal 4-5am, so I had to switch sides of the street I was running on a couple of times. #HWI #Run4Water #WhyIRun Even though things seems tough at times with what we are dealing with I still don’t see it being as nearly as tough as what many in Sierra Leone face every day. In Sierra Leone there are few that could be working from home.

    Friday Impromptu Race

On Friday, June 7th, I had the opportunity to join a group of #HWI Team members as part of a marathon relay team. I was chosen to bring the team home running the last 6.2 mile(10K) of the relay. It was a tough run for me as my phone/watch wouldn’t work, other than music through my headphones, so I had no idea what my pacing was and no timer to keep me hydrated regularly like I’m used to. I felt like I was sort of running blind. When I saw the results tonight I was pleasantly surprised to see that I came in around the time/pace that I had hoped based on a training run I did earlier in the week. It was a tough…
