Christmas Eve 10K+ Training Run

Enjoyed a run with some light snow falling. One challenge was that when I started things were clear, with no snow in the forecast, but a couple miles into the run the snow started and I noticed many slick spots on the sidewalk. And wouldn’t you know I had decided not to wear my cleats. I surprisingly still finished with a pretty solid average pace. I haven’t really ran in much for significant weather yet this winter. We’ll see what Minnesota brings to my runs next week while visiting family.

I get a lot of comments about not “taking a break” from running. And I don’t discount the concern people may have that I’m pushing myself towards injury. The reality of it though is that running is really just a part of who I am at this point. It’s also, for me, something bigger than just running. It’s my time alone with God, time to let him speak to me, and it’s time I spend that helps me remember the bigger picture of why I run, being a part of providing wells to those in need in Africa. The race may be done, and I may have crossed that finish line, but the need for clean water hasn’t ended, so my running doesn’t stop either.

    Wells And Wellness…And Treadmills

I decided to run on the treadmill this morning for my speed work, partly due to the down pouring rain. It was the toughest training run I’ve had in awhile. I’ve always considered the treadmill as the most boring and dreaded running you can do. I’ve starting to change my opinion on the treadmill. Instead of the dreaded thing I’ve always seen it as, however I have some to respect it, it challenges you in ways that the outdoors doesn’t. Needless to say today the treadmill won. I only made it to 6 miles and cut the last 23 minutes of my run. I did this photo collage to show that I not only #Run4Water but I also run for my health. About 3.5 years…

Another 15 Miles For Clean Water

Help Bring Clean Water to Africa: https://timn.me/2Kx7NEr #HWI #Run4Water #WhyIRun #GRMarathon Now is the time to be kicking the fundraising into high gear. We have a $50,000 matching gift right now. Anyone that gives will have their donation doubled. It’s like a buy-one-get-one donation. ? #BOGOGiving Why not take advantage and double your impact! I didn’t get up early enough to get the additional 2 miles in that was on the HWI training plan, but I met the #Endomondo training plan miles. I knocked out the run with a pretty fast pace to get done before the running group met at 7am. It was way faster than the 9:53/9:23 pacing I was supposed to be running. I made it in time though.

    A Training Run Of Reflection

This morning was not only filled with worship time but also some time of reflecting on the holiday and the joy of celebrating with family the birth of our Savior. I’m thankful for the day we had to put all of the challenges of recent days, weeks, and months aside and enjoy time together with family. The New Year is upon us and, as it approaches, I pray that God would continue to guide our family in fulfilling his plan. I also spent time thinking about the next Sierra Leone trip coming May, and the team God is putting together. I’m excited to see what He has in store. #HWI #Run4Water #WhyIRun #GRGus Donate to Clean Water – https://timn.me/2t9D4ne

Striving For Better But Not Losing Sight Of The Purpose

When it comes down to it I have a strange definition of “easy run”. The reality of it is that I just have this drive to always do better, to try harder. I know perfectly well that I won’t be winning any races in the foreseeable future, but like in most things I do I know I can always do better. The key piece that I can’t, we all can’t, forget is that doing better doesn’t change how much God loves us. Our worst is no different than our best in God’s eyes. Ultimately, God only cares about where our heart is at, and if we are in a relationship with him. I run not just to get better at running, but because I know…
