    Back Running With The Hope Water Team

    I’m definitely well on the way to recovery. I enjoyed a nice Saturday group run with the #HWI Daybreak Team. Great conversations with Todd, Nate, and Josh. It was a nice change of pace to just get out there and run and have no agenda in regards to distance or any specific pace. I definitely took Ron’s advice today and just had fun. I’m also excited to see a bunch of guys taking the next step and moving from their half marathon last year to a full this year.     Early Tuesday Morning Training Run For Clean Water

    It’s a strange thing comparing your hot midday run to your cool early morning. I would have thought that I was going to knock my pace out of the park this morning but alas no. I have to believe that my lack of rest last night was a major contributor. The interesting thing was seeing my heart rate drop to the low to mid 130s during miles 5 & 6. I can only attribute that to my shower pace during those miles while I was pretty focused on prayer for family, friends, and those needing water in Sierra Leone, like the village of #Ronkorhun.     Prequel To The Groundhog Day Marathon?

    It was a tough run this morning the snow covered sidewalks and pathways really took their tole the further I got into my run. On top of that my CamelBak nozzle froze up and couldn’t get any water for a good portion of the second half of my run. What was supposed to be a 17 mile run ended up being only a 15 mile run. I had my mask on to help cover my face from the wind, which I’m so thankful I had decided to that otherwise my face probably would have been frozen.   • Staying On Track With A Monday Recovery Run

This sort of infrastructure is just not widely available in Africa. Where even most rural homes in the U.S. have had their own well available right outside their home. Imagine having to make a couple of mile trek for a small amount of water to hopeful get through the day. A well changes all of that for a family in Africa.
  • Sticking With The Pacers

    I wanted to make sure I hit my target based on how my training went. I decided before the race even started that I was going to stick with the pacers. That plan paid off. Even though my target pace was supposed to be 8:42 min/mi my choices for pacers was 8:30 or 9:00 and so I decided to stick myself in between, but really I just stuck with the 8:30 pacers the whole way, mostly. After hitting mile 10 on Butterworth Street there was a long stretch that was all downhill. I took advantage of that hill and passed the 8:40 pacers.
