Final Training Run Before The Groundhog Marathon

Things were a bit off, and out of the normal, this morning. It actually started last night as I discovered that the #Endomondo service was apparently down, which meant I couldn’t load my training plan to see what my last run would be. Then this morning the Endomondo app on my phone wouldn’t even load right. Since my smartwatch came with #Strava built-in, and I’ve been syncing data there, I decided to give it a go on my run. It worked out well enough, except the watch and phone apps don’t talk to each other in real-time which meant I had no audio coaching and no real-time stats, including heart rate, pace, etc. Looking at my final stats I knocked the run out with flying…

    Preflight Long Run

Since our family was flying to Minnesota very early the next morning I decided to get my long run in the night before. It started out very strange because as I ran I felt like I was slowly trudging along but when my audio coach gave me updates it was saying I was doing a pace under 9 min/mi which just didn’t seem possible. Then for the first half of the run I was just cruising. The second half of the run was a very different story. I’m not sure why I just hit the wall but it happened. I eventually decided to cut the run short at a half marathon distance. Giving how slow my pace was the last few miles I expected a…

Reflecting On My Sierra Leone Experience While Running

Since we’re gone camping this weekend I decided to get my long run in before we left. I was thinking a lot about my experience in Sierra Leone while I ran, including those specific people I had the opportunity to meet. I miss being there and am a little saddened that I may not get back there again. I’m still processing my time there, and trying to better share small pieces of my experience with others. When I think of Sierra Leone and their struggles for #water the song #Africa by #Toto always comes to mind. #HWI #GRMarathon #Run4Water #WhyIRun #HessLakeRun Donate To Wells In Africa https://youtu.be/FTQbiNvZqaY Hudsonville, Michigan, United States of America

    Christmas Eve 10K+ Training Run

Enjoyed a run with some light snow falling. One challenge was that when I started things were clear, with no snow in the forecast, but a couple miles into the run the snow started and I noticed many slick spots on the sidewalk. And wouldn’t you know I had decided not to wear my cleats. I surprisingly still finished with a pretty solid average pace. I haven’t really ran in much for significant weather yet this winter. We’ll see what Minnesota brings to my runs next week while visiting family. I get a lot of comments about not “taking a break” from running. And I don’t discount the concern people may have that I’m pushing myself towards injury. The reality of it though is that…
