Working From Rest, Productivity At It’s Best

“Man’s blessing didn’t come from what he produced, rather, what he produced stemmed from his blessing. Let that blessing fuel your work, so that striving ceases and what you produce comes out of a place of rest.” – SELAH | Defining Rest In The Age Of Productivity

The start of this study reminded me of the Life Shapes, specifically the Semi-Circle. There has been a lot of proof that in order to perform at our best we need adequate rest. What that rest looks like can be different for everyone. We are all charged back up in different ways depending on our personalities. Nonetheless, we all need to be charged up to tackle what’s before us.

Even as a runner, I’ve seen first hand what physical rest, or the lack of it, can do to one’s physical performance. We were created for rest, but not rest for it’s own sake, but rest so that we can effectively perform in the work at hand.

Seeking God’s Direction When Looking Out On The Horizon

Both my wife an I are going through a low point where neither of us feels we have clear direction on where we are headed. Specifically, where and how we are to be serving. I thought I had some clear direction but a week ago that all seemed to change. I’m finding myself questioning a lot of things right now. It’s difficult to weather the storm when things start to fall apart. One thing is clear though, that no matter where in the journey we find ourselves God is right there to walk with us through it. We’ll see what this next season brings for our family. One thing is for sure, given that both my wife and I feel like we are at…
  • Where Does Our Witness Begin?

As I sat here thinking about how to safely write my thoughts, I began to be reminded of the life of Christ and his actions. I’m thinking of how he was viewed by those around him. Is it not true that Christ did things that were against the culture of the times, or at least things that caused people to question his actions? He had meals with those that the spiritual leaders wouldn’t dare find themselves in the company of. I guess at the moment the only examples that come to mind are those where he interacted with people that most wouldn’t. I guess my ultimate question is where is the line drawn where we can live in the freedom we have in Christ verses…
  • Quick For Now…Best Birthday Ever!

So, before I hit the sack. I just have to thank the most amazing women in the world [Vanessa ;-)] for the most amazing birthday ever. OK, so some of you are thinking “it’s not your birthday yet” well, we celebrated early because we’ve got our dance class on Tuesday. Today was an awesome day! Vanessa gave me a season of Seinfeld on DVD and a disc golf bag. She took me out for dinner at a great place called Rose’s on Reeds Lake, and we had some wood-fired pizza, it was excellent. After dinner we headed over to a theatre to see an improv group (River City Improv). We had a load of laughs. Well, I’ll have to get into more later. I don’t…
  • First Work Morning, in the New Place…

So really yesterday was my first morning waking up in my new home, however this is the first morning that my work morning routine begins to take shape (at least until we return from our honeymoon). I’m going to have to keep this short for now. These past couple of weeks, and now this week, have been amazing for my morning devotions. I struggled at the beginning of the year to want to go through one of the devotionals I had because I had already been through it a couple years ago. The amazing thing is over the course of the last couple of weeks, and now this one, the devotional readings have all been about marriage. This week talks about life after the honeymoon,…
