Sticking With The Pacers
I wanted to make sure I hit my target based on how my training went. I decided before the race even started that I was going to stick with the pacers. That plan paid off. Even though my target pace was supposed to be 8:42 min/mi my choices for pacers was 8:30 or 9:00 and so I decided to stick myself in between, but really I just stuck with the 8:30 pacers the whole way, mostly. After hitting mile 10 on Butterworth Street there was a long stretch that was all downhill. I took advantage of that hill and passed the 8:40 pacers. I maintained that position probably up to around mile 14 which is when the mental part of my run had to kick…Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth.
(Proverbs 27:1-3) What a day today was. Surprises at every turn. So this morning I used my “snow blower” for the first time. I’m sorry to say (Mom & Dad 🙁 ), that that thing is not much more than a gas-powered shovel. I think I could have do it by hand faster. Well, can’t complain about the price I guess. Got to work with an unplowed parking lot, but behold there was 1 clearly open spot for me to park, yeah! It was nice to have gotten up at 5:30 again. I was feel pretty good today, pretty much back to my old self. Well after continuous looks at the UPS package tracking it appeared that I wouldn’t get my new PowerBook until tomorrow….
Wrapping Up The Final Week Of Long Runs
This week starts the taper before the marathon. Didn’t have time to grab my own photo since nature was calling. Hopefully that’s not going to be a problem again for my morning runs. #HWI #Run4Water #WhyIRun #GRGuss
How Do You Stay Warm In Sub-Zero Temps? Run.
It really looks worse than it was. I was trying to get a smile in there but I think things were a little too frozen. Ha. Despite how cold things were with the wind chill, it was really a comfortable run. I even got finished with a pretty great average pace. While I listened to the worship music playing I spent time thinking about and praying for our Sierra Leone team. I’m excited to see God’s plans unfold. #HWI #Run4Water #WhyIRun #RiverBankRun
Getting Back Into Training After A Long Camping Weekend
You know it’s going to be a hot and humid day when you feel it at 5am. Glad to be back out running after a week’s time of being out of it. I commend those that are able to keep up with their #training over vacations and while traveling. Looking forward to joining my running partner once again this week. #HWI #HessLakeRun #GRMarathon #Run4Water #SauconyRunChallenge
Getting It Done On A Monday Morning
It was one of those mornings where after getting up you entertain the idea of just going back to bed instead of get out there for a run. I got over it and hit the streets. It was a slow start, but by the end of my run I had easily picked up the pace. I came to a point, after having prayed for the pending #SierraLeone team, that it kind of dawned on me. How many of those in Sierra Leone get tired of the daily trek to get water for another day? They don’t really have the choice. I had a relatively easy choice this morning, nothing in my life hinges on that choice to run or not. My choice to run may…
