    Hitting The Pavement After The Grand Rapids Marathon

    Back in the saddle with an “easy” 9 mile run. I’m still finding it hard to keep a consistent pace. I tried to keep it in the 10:14 min/mile pace but it’s hard for me to get in a rhythm at that pace. It felt good to be back out running again after the marathon. I enjoy the quiet time. I’m still trying to hit the $2000 mark for clean water. I’ve only got $350 more to go.     Just A Short Tuesday Run

    It was nice to sleep in a little before doing the short run, especially given my #Endomondo training plan has me on a 5 run per week schedule. The only problem with these short runs is that I get a little too caught up in my speed. I love having the worship workout music pumping me up to full speed. It was pretty warm out already at 5am. #HWI #Run4Water #WhyIRun #GRMarathon

    Last Run Before My Surgery

    When I got up this morning to thunder, lightning, and down pouring rain, I decided to wait until this evening to get my last run in before my surgery. As it normally goes, running in the evening is always harder for me. I can usually feel my supper, or what I’ve been eating that day, and it usually just doesn’t feel great. Tonight was no exception. I had intended on running 12 miles but only made it 10, and my pace slowed down considerably over the last 5 miles. It didn’t help matters either that I decided to break in my new shoes in a 12 mile run. I wouldn’t recommend that. I could definitely feel my shoes and the odd places that felt sore….

    Focusing On The Distance Not The Pace

    There is a reason the saying goes that “life is like a marathon, not a sprint” and it has to do with going the distance. Getting back to the basics of marathon training means focusing on slowing down and building up the endurance needed to finish well. If I’ve learned anything from this past year of training it’s that I lost sight of this fundamental part of training. If I have any hope of finishing well at the upcoming Groundhog Marathon I need to keep focus on that key piece of my training. Today I tried to keep that focus though I still finished with a much faster pace than my training plan directed. I’ll be working on that more in the weeks to come….

    10 More Miles And 2 Years Ago

    It was great weather for a 10 miles run this morning. As I finished things up I was reminded that just 2 years ago I was blessed to be hanging out with a bunch of children in Sierra Leone. #HWI #Run4Water #WhyIRun #GRMarathon #RiverBankRun I had hoped to return there last year but things didn’t work out. Traveling to Sierra Leone and seeing first hand the hardship of the lack of clean water, as well as the blessings a village experiences when a well is put in, is something that I will never forget. Let me tell you, until you have an experience like that your world view is pretty narrow minded. It’s that experience that has driven much of my perspective on the impact…
