Finished Another 5.00mi Run Today

I pretty much missed the boat this past weekend, since I overslept and missed my Saturday long run. We’ll see how this week goes. It was another single digit morning, with a bit of snow as well. I made a point to stick to the streets in order to keep some traction.

Training During The Winter, Treadmill Alternatives

So up until the end of December I’d been sticking out running outside. Since the snow began to fly I’ve taken things indoors on the dreaded treadmill. πŸ˜‰ Currently the treadmill running has been thanks to a great 3-month deal on a gym membership. Once we move into our new house in February/March I’ll be on our own treadmill, which we picked up cheap(used) before Christmas. I’m planning on joining some of the Hope Water Project – Team Daybreak group runs starting this Saturday, which brings me to considering what it means to run in the cold. I came across this Runner’s World post today that has many ideas on ways to keep training in the Winter months, or cold climates. I think the most…

A Little Less Hair And A Little More Speed

This morning was a bonus #Endomondo training run day. According to the Endomondo marathon training plan I needed to do at least 5 days of running per week which meant adding Wednesdays as a running day instead of the #HWI training plan’s cross training day. I haven’t gone through to see how other things line up though I have my doubts much will actually line up. We’ll see what plan I end up following in the end. I spent some time thinking about, and praying for, the people in Sierra Leone, especially those that I encountered last year when I was there. The rainy season should have either started or should be starting. This always presents it’s own challenges. For many getting around during the…

    Race Pace Training Run

#HWI #HessLakeRun #GRMarathon #Run4Water Only a little wet this morning but it actually felt good by keeping things cooler. Tried to keep at a race pace but as usual my pace was a bit of a roller coaster. Even with music I can’t keep it very consistent from one minute to the next. I need to work on that, but perhaps my consistent race pace is slower than I’d like it to be and that’s why I have such a hard time. I know that I was pushing the limits given how high my heart rate would get. I think maybe it’s time to put aside the training plan that is trying to get me faster and just get out and enjoy the run. Not…

New Well in Waterloo, Traveling to Freetown

Today was pretty easy-going as we packed up at the hotel in Makeni to head to Waterloo & Freetown, making the first step towards the trek home. We had a nice long ride to Waterloo where we were going to see some of the final drilling stages of a new well. The well was being put in right near a school in a very poor area of Waterloo. Since it was near a school, and want looked like a community β€œpark” there were a lot of kids around. I think there were a lot of people in general because of watching the well drilling. We’re there for about 3.5 hours before we started to see some water flowing from the well. They eventually got the…

Just Another Half Marathon For Clean Water

The long training run for this day was just another 13 miles, which of course I made a half marathon by squeaking in the last 0.1 miles. On Saturdays that I don’t have early morning family commitments, or that I’m out of town, my goal is to get my miles in before the start of the #HWI group run. I love to hang out with the community even if I don’t get to run with them. I love to hear how Hope Water is impacting our running group as we are working to impact Africa with clean water. #Run4Water #WhyIRun #GRMarathon Help Bring Clean Water to Africa: https://timn.me/2Kx7NEr
