The Invisible Man Speaks!

OK, folks. So it has been a rather long time since I last posted. Let’s just say that my life has been a little busy. Last week on Monday I started my new job. My official title is Associate Network Planning Engineer, isn’t that a mouth full. I work on a team that develops tools to help track the cellular network and help to plan for expansion. The crazy thing about last Monday was that even though I was starting no one there that day really knew that I was starting. The guys I work with got the emails that morning about me starting. The IT deptartment wasn’t very happy as they hadn’t even begun working on getting me a computer. I basically had not computer and no desk to call my own. By the end of that week I had finally gotten a computer to use and a desk to work at, I also got my new company cell phone.

The phone wasn’t all I had hoped. We basically get a free phone up to $250, but at retail prices. I was really hoping to get my hands on a new Treo 700p, but I was only going to be able to get that by forking over an additional whopper of $400 out of my pocket. With the new move I just going justify spending that kind of money. In the end I have a decent phone, but I’m not able to do all the bluetooth syncing stuff I would have liked to do. I was able to easily send the contacts I felt I needed over to the phone from my Mac Address Book, which was nice.

I spent most of Saturday and Sunday with Vanessa. On Saturday morning she had to take her car in for some checkup stuff before it was taken out to NY. We went to the mall and did some shopping. I actually came out pretty good with my shopping. I saved almost $150 off the retail price wiht what I bought. Great sales for sure. We went to a great pizza place for lunch and I had my first calzone, boy was that excellent eatin!

Sunday I helped Vanessa get some stuff done at church, she works there by-the-way. I ran and got us Subway for lunch, we got back to her place about 4:30. We just spent some time together. She was heading out on a missions trip on Monday morning and she won’t be back until like the 23rd. She made an amazing supper for me that night. It was meatballs and rice, along with fruit and salad. I’d have to say is definitely one of my favorites. That night I got in on a server upgrade at work, around 10pm, but I didn’t get home until like 6:30am the next morning. Let’s just say that things didn’t go as planned. I didn’t end up going into work until a bit after noon on Monday.

Monday night I went over to Vanessa’s parent for supper and to power-wash my patio bench. I’m going to be staining/water sealing it and needed to get it cleaned up. I had a wonderful time visiting with Vanessa’s parents. I always have so much fun and feel so at ease with her family. I did manage to get a little bit more sleep that night than the previous.

Well, and that brings me to today. Another day of work and getting more projects added to my list. I do have to say that I was a bit happy because of something that was mentioned at a meeting we had. One of my co-workers complimented me rather nicely to my boss. It was so nice to hear that I’m relaly seen as an asset to the team.

So I didn’t go into a lot of detail, it has been awhile and I just don’t have the time to go into the kind of detail I normally would ifI was just recapping a day. I hope all those that might be stumbling by, to check up on me, are doing excellent as well. I’ll do my best to get back into a few more posts each week. It seems kind of crazy to go from multiple daily posts to only once every couple of weeks. I do however post my morning devotional thought almost every morning over on my Faith Shaping website. Alrighty, cio!

    First Day in Sierra Leone

I had a great night’s sleep at the hotel. Where we are staying there are multiple buildings of rooms. Each of us has our own room and bathroom. I was honestly blown away with the accommodations. As I mentioned to my wife, I was humbled by the accommodations compared to living conditions we passed by on our drive to the hotel the previous evening. After breakfast, which included eggs, toast, fruit, and a hotdog, we loaded up in the World Hope vehicles on our way to Kethirie for church. It was so amazing to experience worship with the people of Kathirie and listen to the pastor and children’s ministry teacher give messages. What impacted my the most was seeing the people of Kathirie giving offerings…

    Is God Patient?

(Exodus 4:10-18) Interesting question, it would seem that in this passage in Exodus, that Moses wore out God’s patience. It clearly describes that God became angery with Moses when he refused to follow what God was calling him to. This doesn’t mean that God is completely impatient, however it does go to show that He will work with us for a time and perhaps arrange something entirely different to get us moving. We are stuborn people, if God simply waited on us none of His plans would come to pass I suspect. Are we choosing to live in a manner that continues to try God’s patience, or are we desiring to please Him with how we live our lives? I would hope and pray that…
  • The First Disciples

(John 1:35-39) We see here that John the Baptist had disciples of his own. Actually, later in the Scriptures, Jesus gives us the great commission to go and make disciples. Now the disciples that John had were following him, until they heard and saw Jesus. Really, it was John that pointed his followers to go follow Jesus. Something that is interesting, however, is the fact that John calls Jesus the “Lamb of God”. This was pretty early in Jesus main ministry and I wonder how many people really understood what that meant? Jesus being called the “Lamb of God” really meant that he was a sacrifice given by God. At the time most people were waiting for a Messiah to come and save them, but…
  • I Need A Backup…Can I Practice

So, as things seemed to go, I didn’t get nearly what I wanted to get done at work today. Most of my time today was spent working out some backup & database issues. The worst of it is I still can’t get the backup software installed on the server. I know this is going to bite me if I don’t get it resolved soon. Interesting thing is my Dad happened to send me an email asking about backup software for their computer. I haven’t gotten a chance to respond, I figure I can talk with him about it this weekend when I’m visiting. It also got me thinking about my own backup procedure, and realized that I haven’t made a backup plan to stick to…
