Running For Wells In Africa Means Lives Are Changed

While I have been involved with Hope Water International, I have seen first hand the lives that are changed. Obviously, being able to travel to Sierra Leone Africa I saw what kind of life change can occur for people there. However, the other place that lives are changed are right here within the Team. The support of each other in the HWI community has helped people accomplish more than they had ever thought. That is another reason with the HWI Team. When you have a group that is on a mission to show love to people half way around the world that they may never know, that loves spills over into the group itself.

Highlights of WordCamp Grand Rapids 2018

TL;DR – This year #WCGR was all about people and conversations for me. Oh, and trying my hand at speaking, which I didn’t totally bomb. Today marked the 4th WordCamp Grand Rapids that I’ve attended. Last year I was just an attendee but this year I stepped things up in a pretty bug way. I was not only a volunteer at the Happiness Bar, but I helped with organize the event, and was even one of the speakers. One of the things I love about #WordCamp Grand Rapids, and the #WordPress community is the people. Yet again I felt welcomed as a member of the community, valued for my experiences as a developer and user of WordPress, and encouraged when I had doubts of being…

Devotions for Sacred Parenting #23: The Vice of the Virtuous

“When we don’t live as a people in need of grace, we expect others to be perfect, and we bitterly resent it whenever even the slightest imperfection puts us out.” – Devotions for Sacred Parenting by Gary L. Thomas It seems so easy to take our grace for granted. When we fall into this that is where our actions don’t reflect someone living under God’s grace. God has called us to love Him, and love others as ourselves. As Christ followers love always needs to be first with grace to follow.

A Little Bit of Hill Training

I haven’t run into a race course yet that didn’t have some hills. When you are training it’s important to do some hill training if you don’t want to get caught off guard with hills during your race. Between sidewalks and paved trails, we are pretty blessed with the conditions we have to run in. In stark contrast, for most in #SierraLeone the road to water is dangerous. When a well is put in a village it brings the water to a safe place for all. #HWI #Run4Water #WhyIRun #GRMarathon Donate to Wells in Africa: https://timn.me/2Kx7NEr

10 More Miles And 2 Years Ago

It was great weather for a 10 miles run this morning. As I finished things up I was reminded that just 2 years ago I was blessed to be hanging out with a bunch of children in Sierra Leone. #HWI #Run4Water #WhyIRun #GRMarathon #RiverBankRun I had hoped to return there last year but things didn’t work out. Traveling to Sierra Leone and seeing first hand the hardship of the lack of clean water, as well as the blessings a village experiences when a well is put in, is something that I will never forget. Let me tell you, until you have an experience like that your world view is pretty narrow minded. It’s that experience that has driven much of my perspective on the impact…

A Little Farther, A Little Slower

This morning was really not even a full mile farther than Tuesday. Things were a little slower today but that’s just fine, it was still a good solid run. I really need to start working on a new training plan soon. I’ll have to wait to start a new training plan until I’m back I the swing of things after my surgery next week. I’m hoping that I don’t have to take too much of a break from running after my surgery, but we’ll see what happens. I’m still in the fence on whether I’ll be running the full marathon again this year or if I’ll be scaling back to the half marathon. I’ll have to make a final decision once I’ve recovered from my…
