Odd Holiday Week, Real Healthy Living Test

This was a strange Holiday season with the timing of how Christmas and New Years fell, day-of-the-week wise. We had to celebrate our own Christmas a couple of days early and then traveled over the Holidays. Neither Christmas or New Years has felt like it was actually happening. We’ll still be celebrating Christmas with my in-laws in the next week. I’m not sure how next year so play out but I think we’re going to be taking breaks from traveling to Minnesota for Christmas, and go only every other year.

It has been interesting trying to celebrate the Holidays and manage a healthy lifestyle. I will say that my wife and I together have done about as best as can be expected. We’ve both made a point of eating as much good things as possible among all the Holiday junk food around us. I couldn’t resist having some of my favorites, in small portions. We both got in some running to help offset the travel sitting and junk food. It will be nice to get back home and on to a normal routine of food and exercise. I’ll be a little anxious to see how my weight fared this week when I weigh in. I’m not going to be too hard on myself either way.

Here’s to looking forward to a healthy and exciting 2017!

Final Flight Leg and Arriving in Sierra Leone

We got on our flight to Paris. It was nice to have most of us fairly close together on the flight. We had a short time in Paris at the airport. Got some coffee recharged electronic device and took a chance to get to know each other better. Mike likes to be the jokester of the group. I don’t think any of us got much sleep in on the flight from Paris to Freetown. Dawn beat me at a game of checkers on the in flight media system. Leaving the airport was quite the experience and spectacle. We had a large group of young men that insisted on helping us get to the World Hope vehicles. Curtis and I got to ride in the World…

    Extended Family Holiday Weekend

Had a great extended weekend with the family. Loved having the extra day and enjoyed many fun activities. It started Friday night with my wife and I renting and watching The Shack. Saturday was a busy day starting off with the HWI group run followed by getting supplies and materials to build a deck out back. On Sunday we enjoyed a great Sunday message as a campfire with the family, mother in-law, and father in-law. Monday we had a great morning at the Jenison Memorial Day Parade with the kids. Mom (i.e. Vanessa) was in the parade for the Saturday Slip & Slide so Dad (i.e. me) was in charge of getting the kids a good spot for candy collection. 😉 We wrapped up the rest…

Best 5K Yet, But What’s The Goal

Another day of enjoying the warmer outside weather. My pace has significantly increased and the last 2 days I’ve done a standard run with no intervals. Well actually, I was doing a Ghost Run, which the whole purpose is to best you’re previous time. I’m very happy with my progress however the question still remains for me, “What is my goal?”. My plan right now is to run the 5/3 Riverbank Run coming up this Spring. Since I’m already running a 5K at each workout then perhaps working on my time is where I should be focusing my attention. I still think I want to do the Grand Rapids Half Marathon this fall so I will need to do serious training for that distance. I…
