Final Day in Sierra Leone And Heading Home

Saturday was our last day in Sierra Leone. Ron, Terry, and I started off the day with a short 3 mile group run. It was pretty hot and humid.

After showering and breakfast we headed to a market in Freetown.

As we we’re on our way we we’re briefly stopped by a small parade or sorts, complete with a marching band.

Our driver’s took us to a market that was in a building that had 2 floors packed with vendors. We all did a bit of haggling and purchased some items to bring home to friends and family. We headed back to the hotel after the market to pack up and head to lunch.

We had one more meal at the Basha Bakery and ran into some Makeni World Hope staff that were in town, Freetown, for a meeting. There was also a college group from Houghton College that showed up. I had been to Houghton a couple of times for NTS Camp.

We wrapped up lunch, said our goodbyes to the World Hope staff and headed to the sea taxi. We took a boat from where we were staying to the airport. We actually took a boat, then a bus, then got to the airport.

We all got checked in, through immigration and security and we’re on our way. We ended up having a short stop in Conakry, Guinea. After which we were back in the skies to Paris and we’re served supper. We had the choice of barracuda steak (fish) or chicken so of course I chose the fish.

We arrived safely in Paris and got coffee, used the restroom, and of course some decided to take a rest. It’s hard to get much rest on the airplanes. I did sleep some but you start getting sore of you stay in one position too long.

    Weekend Recap…

Ok, so I guess I took a break from the whole blog thing, sort of. Basically I ended up adding some additional features and tweaks. I never did get to see any friends. Oh well, hopefully another time. Sunday, my family and I headed off to the Minnesota State Fair with my aunt and uncle. My sister invited two friends so they basically went off and did their own thing. It started out with kind of crumby weather on the way, but it cleared up by the time we got their and started walking around. I can’t say that I say anything exceptional. Did visit the technology building (surprised?! LOL), and Unisys had some pretty cool bio-metric stuff they were showing off. HP was there…
  • Packed And Ready For Sierra Leone

On Sunday our team met and got all the supplies packed up for our trip. This week we have all been making final preparations for the trip. I’m planning on posting regular updates to my blog which you can also subscribe to as well. Then I heard the Lord asking, “Whom should I send as a messenger to this people? Who will go for us?” I said, “Here I am. Send me.”  Isaiah 6:8 NLT

    Excellent Weekend…

Well, I didn’t get a post made last night. I just got a little tired to make the post. Also, there wasn’t much that went on Saturday. I got up around 9:30 and got around to getting my remaining leaves cleaned up and taken to the dump before the rain came. I made some bread in the bread machine for the first time. The crust got a little harder and thicker than I would have preferred but it was tasty. I mostly bummed around that day. I went over to John O’s that night and watched “The Magnificent Seven” with Rud Wasson & Shawn Osborne. It was a good old western. Today I got up for the early service at church. John Kilde gave the…

    Monday Morning Recovery Run

What started out being a pretty easy going run turned out to be much faster than I had expected. I was checking my heart rate the whole time and only once did it rise just a hair past 150. My pace just ended up being what it was based on how I ended up doing with my heart rate. What’s encouraging to me is to see what appears to be my heart health getting better. I feel God has definitely blessed me through my running. Honestly, one of the big helpers with my runs is listening to a worship workout album. There are moments when I am so focused on the song that I forget about the running. I did take some time this morning…
