Knocking Out Another Thursday 3 Mile Training Run For Clean Water

Sometimes, even when you’ve tried to resist it, you fall into old running habits. I’ll expand on that later if you keep reading. We can so easily take water for granted.

All across America people water their lawns to make them green, fill their giant pools to cool off and enjoy a swim, and a number of other easily wasteful uses of water. We forget how privileged we are compared to many who have to walk miles just to get a drink of water, and often dirty water. We can use our privilege to make a difference around the world to bring clean water to those in need.

Today was supposed to be an easy run. Even though I no longer have pace feedback turned on, I’ve run enough to know how I might be doing just based on how long it’s taken me to go a distance. I know I was pushing things too hard based on my heart rate. I was feeling OK so I figured pushing it harder was OK, and justified it due to my challenging Tuesday run.

    Relegating To The Treadmill

With my wife out of town I can’t be leaving the kids home alone, this means the treadmill it is. I think this is the first time I’ve been on the treadmill probably in the last 8-10 months. I literally can’t remember the last time I had to use it. For times like these I’m glad we have it or there would be no running. Since the treadmill required significantly less thought, except for changing the speed during the short interval run segment, it gave me ample time to think about the Sierra Leone team and trip. I continue to pray for our team’s planning and the journey to come. #HWI #Run4Water #WhyIRun #RiverBankRun

Having Choices And Choosing To Run

Every day most of us, in the U.S. especially, have a dozen choices we can make. I had the choice to either get up at 4:30 am and run or stay in bed and sleep. Not to minimize those that do have some tough decisions to make, but in the big picture most of us have pretty easy decisions, compared to those in Sierra Leone. #HWI #Run4Water #WhyIRun #GRGus

    11 Frosty Beard Miles

Today marks the last of my longer training runs as the taper begins before marathon day. The temp this morning was in the high teens which resulted in a pretty frosty beard. I ended up pushing things a little harder than the training plan called for, but I was trying to make it back home at a decent time. I ended up a bit slower the second half because I pushed things a bit harder than I should have, but that’s just the way it goes. I finished the last half mile strong though. #HWI #Run4Water #WhyIRun #GRGus Give clean water: https://timn.me/2Kx7NEr

    Clean Water Promotes Education

Support education in Africa through clean water. https://timn.me/2Kx7NEr #HWI #Run4Water #WhyIRun #GRMarathon #Education Clean water doesn’t only save lives in Africa, it also helps promote education and a brighter future for children. Instead of young boys and girls having to make the trip to retrieve water for the family they can spend their time in school furthering their education.
