Getting Out of Bed and Out the Door

This morning I almost didn’t make it out of bed for my run. I got up later than planned but I did manage to get out of bed and out the door. I set out to keep it an easy run and I managed to get done with a decent time and feeling good. Sometimes when we least expect it a run can be really good.

Reflecting On My Time In Sierra Leone

The TL;DR is: I am blessed more than I ever understood and I will make every effort to give thanks in all circumstances. Also, where God’s love exists there is always hope for something better. As I continue to process my experience in Sierra Leone Africa I can’t help but feel like I spent a week in another world. What I find simply amazing is that in a place so filled with hardship, and circumstances I can barely begin to comprehend, there are people that still manage to find joy, be generous, and show love and kindness to someone so very much unlike them. I chose this photo of children, not filled with smiles and laughter, but showing that theirs is a life of daily…

    3rd 5K, Tough Morning…Inclines

This morning felt like a pretty big challenge. It being my 3rd 5K this week I just felt off from the start. After looking at my distance climbed I think I understand why today felt like so much of a struggle, I had about 90 feet of incline then my last 2 5Ks. Looks like the machine decided to take things up a notch today. I’m not unhappy with my pace. It just feels like I took a step back from the start of the week. I think my body is still recovering from lack of sleep since I was up way late the night before last. I hope it’ll work to make it to a HWP group run soon. Knocking Out Some Early Morning Miles With A Hope Water Teammate

I had the pleasure of finishing out the last 10 miles of my run with my #HWI teammate Justin. It’s so nice to have both the motivation, and distraction, of someone else on the longer runs. It really helps melt the miles away. This is Justin’s first year with Hope Water, and his first marathon. I enjoyed being able to share my previous years of experience and what I’ve learned. #Run4Water #WhyIRun #GRMarathon If you haven’t already donated to Hope Water please consider donating to Justin’s fundraiser: https://www.hopewaterinternational.org/fundraisers/888

    Hitting The Training Run Hard

Today was a short assessment training run, basically 12 minutes of giving it all you’ve got. It’s preceded by, and follows, a 5 minute warmup & cool down run respectively. I did an out-and-back while giving myself some distance for a final cool down walk to home. We’ll see what this means for my final target pace for the Groundhog Marathon. #HWI #Run4Water #WhyIRun #GRGus I’m looking forward to representing Hope Water at the Groundhog Marathon again. My hope is to keep on target with the pace my training plan estimated and to complete it without having to walk. However, I’ve also considered intentionally doing walk/run intervals to ensure that overall I finish with a good time. We’ll see where I land. Give water, give…

First Long Run Of The New Year

I’m thankful for the nice weather this evening, and for making it back safely from Minnesota, to get my long run in tonight. It was a tough one doing it at night and all alone. You don’t realize how many miles a running partner gets you through without you even feeling it until you don’t have one on those long runs. I’m looking forward to getting back to a normal routine again. Not that I’m happy with just the status quo, but being back in a controlled environment where it’s easier to stick to the good habits and resist the bad ones. I’m looking forward to what the new year holds for me both in my running and every other area of my life. #HWI…
