Seeing God…

(John 14:1-14) When Christ was here on Earth in and among the Disciples, man was able to see God first hand. Even then the Disciples didn’t quite get it, not really realizing that they had God among them. Today it might seem that we don’t have the benefit of seeing God as the Disciples did, however the Holy Spirit does live among us. I’m reminded of the sermon that Christ gave about the “sheep” and the “goats” as they came to heaven and Christ seperated them based on how they served and loved others. From His message we can see that day-to-day we have opportunities to show Christ to others.

God wants to use us for His work. When we are used by Him to even bless other Christians, we are seeing the qualities of God being shown to us. There are many who might say that we have it so much harder than the Disciples, because they were physically with Jesus. However, I think we have had things so much easier, and we haven’t had the sort of resistance and persecution that the Disciples had. For most Christians in the Western world today, we have lived in a culture that has allowed us to be Christians. There are those countries where Christianity is still outlawed, and I feel they probably have a greater faith in God than most Western believers. I’m not seeking persecution, merely a desire to put complete faith in my God who loves me and promises to take complete care of me. If persecution produces a deeper faith than that is what I would desire, a deeper faith by whatever means God would provide.

As the years go by, and Christ’s return draws near, it would seem that there will be a time when even in the Western world Christianity will be persecuted against. This is even written in Revelation. The time will come for us to either stand against the Anti-Christ, or take on his mark and turn our back on our faith. I would pray that Christians will rely on a faithful God to bring them out of that time.

Hoping to Get Back in The Groove…

Something that came up at our Life Shapes meeting this morning, was the subject of mission. This is something that I’ve been sort of struggling with, in that I’m trying to determine what my mission should be. I think this brings me back to the Purpose Driven Life. I have felt, for a long time, that my heart is for youth. This has been what has drawn me to my years working at Inspiration Point, and my current involvement with the Bethel youth. I’m not sure how the Missional Community of Faith and my heart for youth might be tied together. This is something that I’ll be looking for God’s direction in, as is life in general. Well, this is just s short post. Let’s…
  • Feeling 99% Today!

Thanks for all the prayers guys! I’m feeling about 99% back to normal today. Got up at my normal 5:30 am, got some snow moved and got to work early. Now I’m patiently awaiting my PowerBook to arrive, hopefully the weather doesn’t have a negative effect. Well, have a great day all! P.S. Just did a quick check, it arrived in Minneapolis at 6:04 am. It’s close.
  • Christ’s Call of Discipleship

(John 15:1-17) Whether we choose to accept it or not, as Christians we are all called to be disciples. We are not only to believe in Him, but follow Him also. At times it would seem that we can take the easy route as a Christian. It’s hard for me to imagine making the decision that you are going to believe in something but not let it be the guide in your life. More specifically, a Christian is not someone that just believes in Him, it is also someone that is His follower. Jesus asked that we pick up our cross and follow Him. He is asking us to take the hard road with Him. We can have confidence in knowing that He is right…
  • Start Out Another Week…

Well, as it would happen I’m actually getting another post in. My hope was to get back to posting daily. In a sense I sort of have been posting daily, it just happens that it hasn’t been on here. I’ve been posting daily devotional thoughts over at the Faith Shaping website. I do want to attempt to get regular weekly posts at the very least. This past weekend I had a nice visit from my parents. I invited them up for a weekend just to hang out. I was kind of hoping to give them a break from things back home too. We had a nice weekend of just hanging out and playing some games, chatting, and did more shopping than I could have guessed…
  • Time To Get Serious: God Is So Good

Psalm 25:8, Psalm 34:8, continuing on in getting to know who Gos is, we have to understand that God is good. It always makes me a little frustrated when I hear the classic argument, “If God does exist, why is there so many bad things in the world?”. I almost what to laugh in disgust. We are sinful people in a fallen world. Some may want to argue why we should have to pay for Adam & Eve’s mistake. Well if they wouldn’t have made it we would have. It is us that makes the world so terrible. We all have choices, and must decided how we are to act. Our nature is sinful, which means we need the goodness of God to help us…
  • Time To Get Serious: God Can Handle It

Ephesians 1:1-6, today’s study talks mostly of how great and self-sufficient God is. It is pointed out that just by the very complexity and detail of nature, God shows his power and greatness. God didn’t have to create us, but it pleased Him to do so, this is also what gives us hope. God didn’t have to make a way for salvation, but He did because of his love for us. Well, the thoughts for this morning are not very long but our response to God’s grace and self-sufficient power ought to be one of praise and thanksgiving. Amen!
