    Working Nights & Weekends

    Resisting the urge to work nights or weekends has been a challenge since starting my new job with Sprint back in September. Having a big high visibility project, that is all new, hasn’t helped matters. This article from DZone says a lot to why I need to put my boundaries back in place. I know things aren’t at a good place when my wife says “you’ve been working a lot lately, when will things get back to normal”. Major red flag indeed. So looking forward to the next few months as we’ll be moving into a new house, and my wife plans a trip to Africa, I’ll need to think long and hard before I pickup the work computer during my nights and weekends.

    Looking Back on 2017, the Year of Firsts

    I don’t recall if I’ve ever written any sort of year-in-review blog post or even social media post, but this year I have had so many firsts that I wanted to reflect on and share my thanks for. Health In the health department I not only reached my initial target goal weight but actually surpassed it, and my second target. I think this year I’ve weighed the least that I have in 26 years. I have always struggled with my weight and living a more healthy lifestyle. I attribute my success primarily to my wife, and also to the encouragement of many friends and family.     What Have I Gotten Myself Into…?

    OK, let’s recap the day first. Got up at 5:30 this morning. Had some good time before work. I still really feel getting up at 5:00 would be better, I just can’t get to bed very early, grrr. Work was good today. I feel like I’m finally getting caught up with stuff. Yes! That’ll probably jinks it, LOL. I’m finding that I’m going to have to do some research to find a better system for the free church websites we’re providing. I might have to do something custom, so long as it’s easy to use.     Youth Group Kickoff…

    Well, today work was pretty normal. Nothing too special. We had the youth group kickoff and things seemed to go pretty well. I got over to the church about 5:15 or so to get the sound system & projection equipment all setup. I worked on fine tuning OpenSong a little during break at work and then finished up with adding some announcements Andrew had. Maralee was willing to run presentation. My only problem with OpenSong thus far is that it has slow transitions. I still think it’s a pretty good tool for free on the Mac. We had a good intro meeting as small group leaders.     WordPress Development On A Chromebook, Termux, & Neovim

    So about 6 months ago I decided to make some changes to my personal development environment. I’ve been using a Chromebook as my primary machine since about 2013. I first purchased an Acer C710 for my wife to use but compared to our Macbook Pro it was a frustrating and subpar experience for her, not to mention she was a heavy Adobe Suite user. Since sharing the Macbook Pro was challenging I set out to use the Chromebook as me development machine. Originally I went with the crouton option. It was pretty sweet to have a full Linux environment alongside Chrome OS. I was then running a full LAMP environment with PhpStorm as my IDE.
