A Wet Thursday For Speed Work

Today was a speed work day, and so it goes with those my mind was pretty much totally focused on my run and hitting the target paces. I did still have the worship music going so I was at least still able to connect with God that way. Even though it was a wet run it did help to keep me cool, especially on the intense intervals.

    Focusing On The Distance Not The Pace

    There is a reason the saying goes that “life is like a marathon, not a sprint” and it has to do with going the distance. Getting back to the basics of marathon training means focusing on slowing down and building up the endurance needed to finish well. If I’ve learned anything from this past year of training it’s that I lost sight of this fundamental part of training. If I have any hope of finishing well at the upcoming Groundhog Marathon I need to keep focus on that key piece of my training. Today I tried to keep that focus though I still finished with a much faster pace than my training plan directed. I’ll be working on that more in the weeks to come….

    Another Tough Interval Training Run

    I’m not sure what to make of yet another hard interval run. It is training so to a degree it should be hard. I guess I’m hopeful that in the end I will be better trained for the #GRGus Groundhog Day Marathon come February. I think I consider it a failure when I can’t hit the intervals all right on with the expected pace. Maybe I’m focusing too much on the plan and trying to get better instead of just being content with being ready to simply finish the marathon. There is also the aspect of not losing sight of the reasons I run. #HWI #Run4Water #WhyIRun

    Changing Focus And Changing Pace

    I expected to have a better overall average time given my training plan had me doing high intensity sprints. It’s OK though as my times were faster than my plan actually called for. The 2nd half of my run was really a little bit of a wake up call on where my focus has been lately. Life has been more about me lately and I’ve been missing, or straight up ignoring the needs of people around me. I may be a bit hard on myself but I’m one that always feels called to do better and not let myself just coast through life. Christ is the model of how even though we may be working on our personal calling our focus needs to be on…
